It shows it doesn't matter how well you play when giving a chance the regulars will be back in for next game.

Krafth Kelly tonali

We've not looked great recently as a unit thought he may of went lets keep it the same from our victory.

Could you set out for me the logic for Tonali not being considered a regular?

The players will now be very closely monitored by actual trained professionals to limit fatigue and injuries, unlike last season when we ran the players into the ground. There could be an actual reason tonali is on the bench.

I'm obviously a big Willock fan but Tonali benched is a weird one.

EDIT: Maybe Howe is trusting the "playing great against former team" factor.

He may start but he's the first to be took off whatever the situation it's like wants any excuse to start Longstaff.

Would have preferred Tonali in there obviously, can only assume he's not 100% because we've got over a week before the next game. Burn presumably in there to counter the set-piece threat but thought Kelly had done enough to get the nod.

Like Willock/Joelinton on the left though.

Not that bothered about the midfield tbh, this is the same line up which performed well in our CL run. It's the lack of pace at CB which worries me.

That's fine but Tonali was outstanding in midweek. Longstaffs was shite when he was on the pitch.

Didn't even see that Longstaff is starting, that's even weirder! Oh well, I'm still up for this.

Howe probably believes that Longstaff can follow tactical instructions better than Tonali at the moment (by virtue of having played many more games for us), and we're playing against a team where we need to be really well drilled to win. I can see the argument... don't need to lose our heads about it just yet.

Don't think anyone is losing their head, but obviously when a player is having a great performance and then is benched the next game you'll see reactions. Doesn't automatically mean that it's the wrong decision.

What worries me is with leaving tonali and Kelly out the team we basically have no pace at the back again.

Arsenal doesn't have much pace up top compared to what Chelsea had.

Back to the future with this team. Aim will be for Joelinton to be a physical presence down the left and to beat them through sheer graft.

Barnes and Tonali give something off the bench too.

However my critique is it shows how the team hasn’t really evolved successfully over the past two years. Fine for today, but then IMO time for a rejig to build a midfield partnership of Tonali/Bruno. I’ve not been a fan of the 4231 calls but after midweek I think it’s time. Not for this game and not for today though.
