Thought Nuno's subs were pretty dreadful.

Taking off Hudson Odoi and Gibbs White for Anderson and the poundshop Portuguese Grealish meant they had no attacking danger on the counter anymore

Keeping Yates on did us a solid, too.

Really like having bench options.  Throwing Willock/Tonali into things as well as Barnes and hopefully Wilson to come.  Even Almiron would have been useful in the scenario that transpired towards the end of this game. 1-3 down you wouldn't want him breaking on you.

Miley as well, he has a part to play this season

Great win. I was confident before the game and it's nice to see your confidence validated rather than have it act as another twist of the knife after a disappointing loss.

It's so good to look at the bench and see players there who you really want to see start but who you can't work out how to fit into a starting line up.

They're just shit, no idea how they were ever third. Chris Wood was quiet all game, Anderson came on and did nothing, MGW was hooked and was probably their best player, Yates is just a mobile shithouse and they've got Mats Selz in goals for fuck sake [emoji38]

Other than one lapse on a close free kick they rarely bothered Pope.

The narrative being pushed at 1-0 was ridiculous, as if we'd fallen into their cunning trap. What trap was that then? Gifting us all of the possession? Allowing us free reign of their penalty area? Playing for one set piece chance?

It was clear we were going to get a goal if they kept allowing us time and space and once we got the equaliser, they had a big problem, the onus was back on them and they didn't have the stamina or technical answers.

Once they they started coming forward, we just picked them off on the break. We could have had a couple more too.

Forest optimised being in a false position in the league. They are a good side and will have a fine year but you can't live on counter attacks like that, without at some point trying to impose yourself on the game. I feel like every other side will now know how to deal with them just a little bit better.

They've a few really nice players though. Murillo, I'd have in a heartbeat.

Hudson Odoi had a terrible game and looked a yard off the pace.

Gibbs White wasn't exactly setting the world alight either. But then, Anderson isn't gonna make much of a difference...

I know I'm really down on Anderson's ability, but I always have been, and his complete lack of impact was no surprise today. He plays such a one-paced game. Almost like he is playing walking football. Just takes too long on the ball and kills momentum. Then a lot of his duels, he pushing and pulling which should just always be a foul. That time he just two handed shoved Bruno and the ref ignored it  He needs to play as a DCM to get-by at Premier League level. Somewhere on the pitch that can afford him a bit more time. He just gets swallowed up by competent midfields when he plays in the hole behind the striker, as he did at times today.

Certainly can’t live on counter attacks at home, wouldn’t be surprised if they continue to do well away from home though.

Forest seem to be doing something that happens every now and then when a manager gets a decent set of players and doesnt over think things sets them up fairly solid and has some exciting players and it does very well. It's not grind it out, it's not regressive or anything it's just also not super 'cunning' or anything, and it will do alright and then the players will get sold and it won't sustain.

They've done very well, but Chris Wood won't sustain that many goals I suspect, but it's not a cunning trap it's a solid team overperforming currently a bit, it'll even out probably.

Carragher kept spouting some bollocks about us needing to be better with our men behind the ball, whatever the fuck that meant. All we needed to do was sort out our final ball, we were pissing on them and the stats showed exactly that.

Anderson is a funny one. Until last season he was essentially a no 10 in a quite old fashioned (now) way, not enough pace to play out wide, not strong enough to play in the middle of a 4-3-3 and as such pretty uncommon site in the premier league, and hence why he always was going to struggle to get starting spot with us. Then he seemed to be a bit bulkier and was tried in that midfield 3 and for a moment thought may add that technical edge we sometimes lack, but he unfortunately just didn't produce a huge amount.

I can see him being fine for Forest, you sometimes want that technical player in the middle in counter attacking teams to be that pivot to launch attacks, but in Howe ball you need to impose yourself and bully the opposition which he never really did

I didn't get that either, Carragher kept saying that they kept picking us off on the break, and that we where lucky not to be further behind, and that we couldn't sustain attacks. Yet bar that free kick Pope barely had a save to make, and we where doing all the running, it was just our final ball letting us down.

It's very rare that I think "we will still win this", but at half time I was convinced we would get back into it.

You just can't play like that for 90 minutes. You could see it coming a mile off but commentary already had their narrative set. More fool them.

Yeah, one of the overriding thoughts I had was how well we managed to defend their counter attacks. I think maybe one sneaked through all game, where as we cut through them 3/4 times in the second half alone.

It reminded me of earlier on in the year when we beat Wolves and Merson was in the studio saying that Wolves were unlucky and will have no problems.... they got their first win yesterday. Thick as pig shit.

Same, which isn't like me. I felt confident we'd get something out of it and when we scored I felt we'd win. I never ever feel that....hence me stating this was the best we've played in 2024. I still think (post match) it's up there.

Really good away win. I felt we'd turned the corner before today's game, so I'm pleased we were at a good level again

Hopefully more of the same after this shite International break.

The most positive thing for me out of the last week or so is that Howe seems to have solved our midfield issue.  The balance is looking far better and Joelinton off the left is by far his best position.  We no longer have those gaping gaps we’ve seen previously. Onwards and upwards
