Newcastle United 3-3 Liverpool - 4/12/24

Recommended Posts

Brilliant game against probably the best side in Europe at the moment. We battled and competed well - Isak looks back to his best - Gordon's goal will have done wonders for his confidence and Tonali was excellent in the middle.

Thought the scousers had the run of the ball mind, but that's what you get when you are top of the league.

Happy enough here. :)

I'll take that, but we were robbed. Once Salah goes Liverpool are going to have a hard time.

Yeah, they were 2nd best tonight. Apparently they have been poor most of the season, but got the results.

It’s like when Gerrard carried them for years. Absolutely nowt special, I hope Man City still manage to come back and win the title.

But harsh on Hall I think.

Nah, no shame in it mind. Needed cover but wasn’t getting it and was duly punished against one of the best there has been.

No more than we deserve! Somehow all of a good result, a robbery, and a bit lucky.

Mo Salah, man. Lewis Hall kept him mostly off the ball, he himself was excellent on the ball, and one on one with him he was fantastic. Salah: 2 goals, 1 assist, hit the bar. Mad player.

You'd take a draw, I'll take a draw despite feeling robbed. Definite pen and an insane FT whistle with us about to put Wilson in is maddening, them not scoring more is a relief, getting the draw is sort of right.

Pope: 7

Livramento: 5.5

Schär: 8

Burn: 7

Hall: 8 (like I said, Salah is just insane)

Tonali: 7.5

Bruno: 7

Joelinton: 6.5

Gordon: 7

Isak: 8

Murphy: 6.5 Barnes: 6

Every fullback in football gets schooled by Mo. Thought Hall did the best he could and won many key 1 v 1 battles

Wasn't intended to be a major dig at Hall.  Gordon was the outball, so couldn't protect him as much as the game got stretched.

Hall's defensive positioning was a bit questionable, but he's young and learning. Full credit to Salah mainly.

Really hope Salah goes. Close to impossible to replace. Probably the best on the planet atm.

He’s mesmerising and always bags against us. But the reason I want him out of the league is so I don’t have to listen to the nauseating patter that the two commentators served up tonight about him.

Think the livra score is unfair, think he played a lot better than a 5.5

Great performance.

It somehow feels like a bad result for both. But a fair one. We were ahead twice and the better side at the time. They’ve come back into it and then battered us for 10-15. Mistake at the end let’s us back in.

Funny old game. At least we are scoring again.

I think Hall showed his defensive naivety letting the ball bounce for Salah's assist, as a defender I was always told not to let a ball bounce like that and thankfully I never had to mark a player like Mo

So pleased we didn't lose that in the end, definitely deserved at least a point. Imperative we follow this up now against Brentford, gotta start winning games

I thought a tackle and some positioning aside he was our weak link. Still think he's great, just think he has way more to his game than that showing

Feeling annoyed after that, so many little things.

Only 1 team seemed to get any advantage played.

The pen decision, which once it's given like it should have been is a 2nd yellow

The choice of when to end the game

2nd load of subs coming so late.

Numerous players being allowed to put both hands on players and get away with it. (Mainly Salah and Van Dijk on whoever)

The Van Dijk on Gordon moment, which in no way was an accident

So many little things seemed to go against us.

Well, it was a fantastic performance with a non-familiar outcome.

Far more good to talk about than bad. I'd not swap Isak for any centre-forward in the league. He's absolute magic to watch in top form. Gordon was class, worked his socks off. Tonali was absolutely amazing - what a motor, thriving in a fast-paced game.

Absolutely battering the best team in Europe for long periods of the contest.

We were repeatedly exposed on our left-hand side. A steep learning curve for Hall, who got repeatedly schooled by Salah.

Have to say - I utterly loathe Liverpool, but you have to tip your fucking cap to Salah. He really is phenomenal and strangely non-loathesome for a Liverpool legend. The way he shifts the ball from one foot to the other and makes his second motion - all in one move - is spellbinding.

Ref got some right, some wrong - but that ending was a bit of a farce.

We looked like Champions League finalists. How the fuck does a squad capable of that so regularly produce the performances we see vs the Hammers etc

It's absolutely maddening. I don't know if Eddie is a more attractive football Sam Allardyce in that he knows how to take points from big six teams and struggles to break opponents who sit in or if it's a motivation issue with the players themselves.

That being said from an attacking point of view, that's the benchmark . Can't accept performances like Palace and West Ham . I can't believe I'm going to say this but if he truly believes that Murphy on the right is the best way forwards tactically he's got to back himself and do that rather than trying to shoehorn Joelinton or Barnes or Gordon there.  Football eh ? Drives you crackers.

Would have loved to see Willock and Joelinton to help him, but probably hurts our attacking in second half.

Gordon came alive after his goal. He's GOT to get his confidence and swagger back.

Infuriates me how passive he is on the ball at times, he has it in him to drive with the ball but only does it once or twice a game.
