Newcastle United 1-4 Bournemouth (18/01/25)

Recommended Posts

Collectively off it after a busy schedule against a team that played well with high energy. Hopefully they have all got it out their system, enjoy a few needed days off and kick on again.

No need to over analyse beyond that imo

Just in from the game.

Much like parts of the second half of the Wolves game, today.

We were generally shit all over the field. Both wingers were terrible and gave very little support to the young FB's today. Murphy and Gordon both looked disinterested to me.

The midfield three were off the boil, Bruno especially, who, yes wins fouls but also delays releasing the ball and it kills momentum - a bad day at the office for him and most his teammates.

The subs were the only thing I'd point towards Eddie, Gordon should have come off a lot earlier, lad looked to be on LSD today.

Bournemouth were one of the most organised teams I've seen here and deserved their win. And, I'd take a reality check every 10 if if means we go on another run of 9....

Simply put, it was one of those days - but were still 4th. (Some fans in SJP and on here need to realise, football teams can be beat by other good football teams).

I don't think anyone expects us to win every game tbh, but it did come as a surprise to get so comprehensively outplayed, that too at home. I am chalking it down to a clash of styles. They had the game plan and physicality to stop us imposing ours on them.

That second goal demonstrated why Bruno needs to be kept away from the 6 and avoid passing to him there, don't think it was a sensible pass from Burn tbf but if that's Tonali he is one touch passing it to the side or back to Burn

If we had a team full on energy we would have punished the room they left open at the back. But "everytime" we got through we only had 1 or 2 players joining in on the attack.

Aye this is a great post. I was having a little think about what went wrong and couldn't help thinking about how little Murphy and Gordon did.

I honestly think Murphy looked so tired. In fairness to the lad, he's worked his absolute socks off and this is where you need to rotate but wr can't.

They knew what they were doing today and played us, the game, and the ref like a fiddle.

I'd go so far to say as they were probably the best organised team here since we played Dortmund last year.

They were very good. We were miles off it. Fair play to them. 6 points from the next two before some really serious stuff in the league and cups and we're still laughing.

Onwards and upwards and howay the fucking lads.

Unfortunately Bournemouth are a team set up to take advantage of all of the chinks in our armor.

Our front 3 are really sloppy playing with their back to goal. Murphy and Gordon struggle technically, and Isak isn't physical enough to hold up. We're at our best when are forwards running towards goal.

Also funny that Bournemouth having no recognized striker was probably a negative for us. I think Burn/Bowman/Schar probably prefer a traditional center forward that they can battle than someone like kluivert who's just roaming around finding space pulling them out of their comfort zone.

Oh well, I'm sure Howe will have them motivated and ready for next week

I don’t buy that anyone was disinterested. Just shit and/or tired

Fair, but Murphy showed little interest in tracking back in the first minutes of the game - nothing personal and just an opinion. Tiredness in minute 5 is a little odd...but not here to argue.

After the 3rd was disallowed Bruno had to physically tell Gordon to wake up and concentrate, but I agree it cold have been mental tiredness.

For the record, I love both players, just an observation.

Just been on twitter and I see all the fickle arseholes are out in force again. Never been seen the past 6 weeks, then 1 loss and everything is back to being shite again. Idiots.

Not going to say it was one of those games; it wasn’t. We were outplayed all game, they were better organised, played better patterns and had higher energy.

Not trying to single anyone out but some observations, Murphy unaffective, Gordon truly awful (his energy and tracking back was abysmal , from the 1st minute), Isak had no service, Bruno was shocking for their second.

Special mention to the ref who let them foul after foul without a booking which meant none of their players came under any pressure to stop fouling until around 65 minutes.

We were well beaten, the reaction will be interesting. Can’t believe how bad we were collectively today and how nobody was able to shake the team out of it.
