Newcastle United 1-4 Bournemouth (18/01/25)

Recommended Posts

Just a bad day at the office. Bad decision making, poor passing (the amount of misplaced passes today was insane), stupid mistakes, and a very good team at the other end of it taking advantage of it all.

One of those days. We’ll bounce back.

I’m quite surprised to be logging on to see so many people saying we were totally outplayed TBH.

I think Bournemouth did a good job to hassle and contain us, but neither team really played any good football. Then we have the match to them with two critical mistakes.

Depends what you mean by outplayed I suppose. They contained us and ended up winning, so fair play. But without two critical errors it probably finishes 1-1.

They didn’t make the sloppy mistakes we did and when they attacked, passed I around us pretty consistently.  I like your optimism, but we didn’t create anything of note or bring Isak any sort acceptable service.

They dominated us in almost every position, not only in general play. Not sure outplayed but they dominated us for sure.

People can overanalyse this result all day but the fact is we were well beaten by a better team on the day. People say fatigue but they couldn't even do the basics, we couldn't pass the bloody ball at all. Bournemouth wanted that win a lot more than us and we're good value for that 4-1.

I didn’t say we played well, I just said that Bournemouth really didn’t play much football either. Individual errors decided the match in the end.

How would you like him to react?

If the ref is letting fouls go without carding people, then you give it back. If he's a weak ref, you square up to players. It's part of the game.

How would you like your captain to react to being fouled 8, 9, 10 times?

Similar to how we turned up and pumped Forest. We need to do the same, take it on the chin and move on.

Nothing but respect for Bournemouth though that’s arguably the best coached side I’ve seen this season. Aye we were shit but they caused that.

I’d like to think that gives a nudge to the higher ups that it’s January and we could use a transfer boost.

Pretty sure the higher ups already know we could do with a transfer boost considering it’s been 3 windows without one. Still don’t think we make a move, maybe a loan with obligation at a push.

Disappointing, but we gave chances away against Wolves and Bournemouth were great today and more likely to take advantage. A game we need to move on from and look to bounce back against Southampton.

Majority of the players were below par and they nullified us in attack. We didn't dominate in midfield and defensively were poor with their wingers pushing Hall and Livramento back.

I thought Dubravka made some good saves and would likely keep him in goal when Pope comes back due to his form over the last 10 games.

Aye, agree with that. By 65 mins most the team was spent against wolves, which helped their late flurry of chances.

Without a doubt, it needed a fresher team today, but that's in hindsight, and Howe would have been vilified if longstaff, Miley, willock etc all started and we also lost.

They didn’t have to and I imagine sitting back, containing us when we had the ball was why they were so fresh towards the end when they punished us for the errors.

I've said it elsewhere, not to excuse us because we were well off it, but that's potentially one of the best performances I've seen from an away team at SJP.

Agreed that we need to see some business coming in - even loan moves, but I'm not convinced it will happen. Doesn't seem to be a lot of wriggle room due to PSR.

We won’t, this squad is ride or die until May.

They were brilliant from front to back. Kerkez, Huijsen, Christie, Kluivert, Brooks. Complete team performance, fair play to them. Three cheers for Ramirez.

They completely deserved the win and it could have been more

I don't think anyone can watch that game and think a draw would have been a fair result

Bournemouth were good but so many of their chances came from our mistakes.

They tactically killed us though.

Aye this one you just hold your hands up and say on to the next one IMO.

I'm sorry but I was at a different game to you Ian.

Bournemouth deserved every bit of that win.

These are a side that have just gone 10 games unbeaten, they're not a Wolves or a Southampton. They're comfortably the most organised side I've seen come to SJP this season.

Which is maybe more impressive than our run considering their club size and injury list.

I didn’t comment on deserved or not deserved, I just think if we hadn’t gifted them two goals there’s a good chance it would’ve been a draw.

But we did, and we only did so because of their pressing. We deserved nothing from the game imo, we didn't press them like they pressed us. The half arsed efforts we did muster resulted in Tino and Burn being exposed to 1v1's
