Newcastle United 1-2 Fulham (01/02/25)

Awful second half.

Schar’s long balls are absolutely shocking at the moment. Willock is horrific every time he gets on (should have been Miley and earlier).

It will get shot down by most of you but we need to replace Burn with Botman to help control games a bit more. Botman can defend as well as Burn but can also pass the ball out from the back. I don’t care how good Burn has been, to progress we need to be better on the ball.

Finally, surely we can get an attacker in on loan just to give us another option. We can’t be that hard up with PSR. Could be the difference maker this season. Fail to get Europe and we lose Isak at least

We'll turn up on Wednesday, absolutely guarantee it.

I've got no concerns about us against the bigger teams at all, we're just absolutely guff against the midtable fodder for some reason.

Unfortunately the mid table fodder are the ones we need to win, basically , look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves , and we aren't doing even that.

I honestly do know what you mean but Burn was probably our man of the match today.

He played well but it’s the same as Pope. As soon as Pope was out we started to feel the benefits of a goalkeeper being able to play the ball out. Having everyone comfortable on the ball is what we need to progress. This unfortunately means that we need to eventually replace Joelinton in the first eleven against the ‘poorer’ teams as he isn’t good enough on the ball.

We’re far too easy and predictable to play again now at home. Until we have defenders or a goalkeeper who can pass through the press then we’re screwed against teams like Fulham and Bournemouth.

I think that's the blueprint now of how to play against us. The worst thing is that the score doesn't seem to change things whether it's drawing, winning or losing, which means we are tactically inept compared to most teams

Both your posts are spot on.

Shocking second half and you could see it coming within the first five minutes. We were slightly unlucky with the Tonali and Isak crossbar, but overall it was sloppy. The second goal from them was awful defending and he is tapping it in 5 yards out. After the Bournemouth game a lot were saying write it off and move on, me being one of them, but we've got some consistent issues that are creeping into our game.

Time for some impact subs!

Step up Messrs. Kelly Osula & Miley

:undecided:

At this point I vote we just splooge a bunch of cash and take the points deduction. Or litigate the fuck out of it ala City.

I agree to a point, we need to be a bit ruthless and start buying up decent squad players.
The bench needs to be strong this is why we falter from time to time with exhaustion etc.

It’s a long season and even longer if in Europe. The likes of Liverpool and Man City always rely on a rotation.

Saying this the only way i could see it working at the moment is if a purple or two are sold and a rebuild of the team initiated.

ps i know f@ck all about how to run a club obviously 🙄

Just got beat by a team that in general is only a rung down from us and happened to be the better team on the day.

Same as how we beat Arsenal twice already.

Hardly cause of inquisitions. Its always been the case that this happens at reasonable intervals and always will be the case.

The squad isn't strong, we cant strengthen it, there's not much we can do to change anything tactically or personnel wise.

Well said. We weren't at our best today but Fulham were and deserved the away win. You can't win them all (sadly). Onto the next one.

Just got back. First half wasn’t brilliant but the second half was just nuts. Lack of effort, application, who knows but that was a million miles away from what you expect from an Eddie Howe team. Whether it was holding something back for Wednesday night I don’t know.

Tino, Big Joe, Hall probably need a rest whatever. They were so off their game.

More like dismal performance from us cost us

I dunno, we weren’t great but I thought we were worth a point really. We did hit the bar twice, and that second of theirs should never have stood.

It wasn’t a good second half and it reduces our margin for error, but was an example of when the fine margins don’t quite go your way for me.

The aspect most troubling was again how pap Bruno looks.

Yes, it's not a one off. Its not the early kick offs, or not playing 'under the lights', it's not even fatigue. We have one way of playing and if we can't play that way it's an inevitable outcome.

We haven't even got a maverick like a maxi to get the crowd going when it's shite.

Referee had fuck all to do with that.

Spot on. The only egregious thing for me is if a pull back on the break is a yellow in the 30th minute it should be in the second (Smith-Rowe). If Bruno does that to Odegaad on Wednesday another ref will book him.
