Manchester City 4-0 Newcastle United - 15/02/2025

Leadership aggression gone out the window, it's only visible in certain games.

Those that recently rubbished big Joe, it was evident his presence was needed today, although I'd assume we'd still lose, perhaps not as heavily.

Lightweights all over in some instances.

I'm fucking knackered and I don't get 8 days off. We're back to 1 a week now. No excuses for showing up when it suits.

Too many were off the pace today, more through a lack of effort than being tired.

Did'nt expect much else, but the gulf in effort game to game is worrying.

Re the winning big games thing, we have just won 4-0 against Arsenal to get to a final like. We’re in a poor run of form, it’s a few things but the one issue that stands out is that Howe and this team desperately need help.  Hopefully the cartel/PL allow it this summer because a refresh is needed

Mine would read more like the ratings you see in L’Equipe  plenty of 2s, 3s and the odd 1

Extremely poor today. Hopefully we'll get a good response for our next match. I'd have played 5-4-1 today and sat deep, I'd do the same at Anfield. As soon as I finish my hindsight coaching badges, I'll take this team to the very top

You've got to put a scale on these things. If I start giving 1s and 2s there's no room for things like Kenedy vs Cardiff, Boumsong vs Liverpool, Cacapa vs Portsmouth etc.

What's concerning is that this game isn't a bad performance in isolation, it's now 3 extremely poor league performances in 5, glossed over by the tremendous displays against Arsenal in the cup, a bit of a fluke against Wolves, and a stock win against the worst side in the league.

What's also concerning is our mentality in those three games mentioned above when we've gone behind. They've all finished in hammerings, which hasn't usually been the case under Howe.

We are outsiders to win the cup, so the season is in danger of nose diving if that game goes wrong and we don't rectify the league performances urgently.

The players need to get their fingers out. Too many of them look like they're just going through the motions in the league games at the moment.

Hopefully trigger a response next week and this game will quickly be forgotten about.

The worry is that the players are backing off slightly, knowing that an injury or suspension might rule them out of the final.  But in doing so, they're surrendering games before they've kicked off and risk going into the final in really poor form.

As I said earlier in the thread - there's been a thing at this club when reaching a cup final, that league form prior can hit a wall.

And then we’re also usually shit in the final too. See 1998 and 1999.

For a lauded midfield up against a supposedly weakened, older and slower midfield, we really embarrassed ourselves in there. Don’t need to pick anyone in particular, all of them in the 1st half just didn’t turn up.

Gundogan was having a relaxing afternoon. Not a good look from our midfielders.

6 for Dubravka is outrageous. Froze in no man’s land for the first (Trippier’s fuck up mainly) and the second was crap from him. Yet another goal to his right that he’s waved in.

I saw someone criticise him for the third. That seems harsh in the extreme

We haven't been properly competitive in any of the 3 cup finals in my lifetime. Like today  Manure were there for the taking last time and we couldn't get through the mental jump, albeit with injury problems and the goalkeeper debacle.

It's a mental block though and Liverpool, like Man City are usually our kryptonite.

In the games since winning a semi-final on this and the last three occasions we've won 2 in 17

*one of those was a dick around against Chelsea the other Barnsley (which we cheated to win)
