Coming onto Percy street and seeing both Eldon car parks rammed with people singing songs, Tsang foods waving a Toon flag out the window while a mob climbs on the Oxfam roof to get a good vantage point. One Dad saying to his son "I've waited 41 years for this, you can stand an hour in the cold", and meeting people who came just to film it for those that couldn't make it. Hearing the roar as the bus turned the corner, the chants as the players get close, and the city collectively realising that this was all real. Don't let anyone tell you any different - the League Cup is massive, and so are we.

My mother, her best friend and my aunt and uncle who care nothing about football but I foist it on them anyway. I should have remembered to mention my mother and her best friend became besties the year you last won a domestic cup, before this glorious moment. 1955. I had a canny spot on the road at the junction at the Hancock, felt a nudge in the back and thought it was some prick trying to get in front of me and the bairn, turned round with a canny scowl.... Was armed police with a rifle and about 3 normal rozzas move on through sir.
