There's not a culture for giving youngsters a proper chance here imo, unless bought for a lot of money.

Anderson looked our best player in pre-season, yet started the season on the bench. The rest is history.

Miley doesn't play much. Highly rated youngsters like Neave and Shahar haven't even played in the cups.

The ball goes where Park wants it to go.

Yeah, I thought it was the pass of a good player. The pace and direction were spot on, as they needed to be, but most of all he had the imagination to see it.

What a silly take. Anderson played decent minutes and looked ok, no one was screaming for him to start regularly.

The right call was made at the time, but in hindsight he looks class now, but he's also playing a Tonali/Bruno role rather than a Joelinton. So, he wouldn't have progressed as he has with us and may not even be starting regular for us now.

It's not a silly take at all imo. We're not very good developing our own and haven't been as long as I've supported the club.

Saying "there's not a culture for giving youngsters a proper chance" is far too strong a criticism and ignores the context about the high levels we're competing at. Evidencing that with 'Miley doesn't play much' totally kills the argument, too; he features in most games and already has 50 appearances under his belt at 19 years of age. That's with incredible competition for his position.

'There's very few academy players capable of playing for a team chasing the Champions League' would probably be a more accurate statement. Miley's brother couldn't even find a Football League club. It feels like we've recruited an awful lot so it remains to be seen if any of them make the cut.

I agree, when you aim to challenge at the top of the toughest league in the world the standard required is incredibly high and there's no room for error - 1 point less last year and we don't have champions league. Very hard for young players to be able to develop and establish themeselves at that level unless they're incredibly talented.

That said, sometimes you've just got to take a chance and think of the merchandise.

This plus a lot of our academy plays are absolutely miles off being capable of playing for us in the premier league.  It’s definitely a slow burner turning us around at that level because it’s been shocking for as long as I can remember, it’s clearly improving but will take ages

Only way this kid gets any minutes this season is maybe in the cup. Or if Gordon, Barnes, Elanga and Murphy are all out injured at the same time for multiple weeks. Absolutely no way we see him in the Premier League this season.

So, at the time what was the other solution that people would have stopped us getting a points deduction? Also, surely he had been developed sufficiently by us to be doing what he is doing now? We just got caught in a position where we had to sell before getting the benefit.

We have also haven't had any top quality youth to develop until now (Carroll aside)

Let's be honest, our wingers have been inconsistent at best this season so far. I say throw him in and see what happens. At the very least it might show the others that their place in the team isn't secure if they don't buck up their ideas.

I agree. Been impressed with what I’ve seen of him. Can’t hurt to chuck him on for 20mins. Crowd seem to lift his game also which isn’t always the case with some wingers.
