Seems a bit, I dunno, desperate. He’s a good player - does he massively improve us for the money? Im not so sure. Does he offer anything really different? Again, not sure.

Maybe looking at this through transfer fatigue though - had this link appeared a few weeks ago probably would have been all for it. I dunno. Can we just fast forward until the start of the season please? This is all just a bit shit.

Don’t we just need a competent striker to help take Isak minutes?

I think he’s seriously underrated. He’s fast, strong, versatile, works relentlessly, presses intelligently, and his finishing is up there with the best in the league. His off-the-ball movement is ridiculously clever too.

Honestly, I reckon part of why he flies under the radar is because he just looks so forgettable. If he had the looks of Edgar Davids (and was four years younger), top clubs would be all over him.

I think mostly Newcastle and the top 4 matches tend to be watched by folks, and so these sorts of players go under the radar.

It was actually quite shocking how good he was last year.

There was some Brazilian striker they bought from Belgium to replace Toney, that got injured early on, and so Wissa was moved upfront from that left side, and it showed a whole other dimension to his game.

I personally like Wissa because he’s smart and has a nose for being in the right places to score. Not an exciting signing but it’s more the type of player I was expecting if we keep Isak.

I’d definitely rather have Isak and Wissa than Ekitike and no Isak.

I rate Wissa but we won’t pay what they’d want. Would be extremely surprised if this happens. Also, I don’t want us to spend too much on him ideally.

overpriced, if we are going down that route just pay it on somebody worth it, not a striker turning 29 in 2 months and who will probably leave for 2 months to go play in a tournament and come back ruined until April

When needing a striker goals is all that matters if isak gets a knock I confident this lad would keep us ticking over until isak is fit. That in turn should help us qualify for the champions league. Get four top years out of him I think.

I think Wissa is quality - age would be the only concern, but he’s been superb since switching to the centre (though of course he can play anywhere across the front line).  If we’re able to get him it would make perfect sense- can’t see Brentford being easy sellers, though.

The flogging him to Saudi in a few years angle has to be utilised, it’s the only ‘hack’ they’ve not outlawed yet. Allows us to buy exactly this profile of player without the obvious downside.

I agree with the sentiment, but we’ve sold one player to a club over there and it wasn’t an astronomical fee by any stretch. I just can’t see us going down that road as everyone else will cry foul.

I mean we’ve got so many players that we need to move on and this is a clear opportunity to do that but we won’t do that it seems

£30m to me seems like a fair deal all round

People with a point to prove will leave off the “does he improve the squad” narrative.

Re the fee if (massive if) we got him for £30m on a four year deal (given his age), then the transfer fee is amortised at roughly half the money received for Longstaff.  £7.5m per season for relatively guaranteed PL quality is not to be sniffed at
