Hmm, not sure. Couldn’t you argue we missed out on Ekitike and had a solid backup option?

Re the fee if (massive if) we got him for £30m on a four year deal (given his age), then the transfer fee is amortised at roughly half the money received for Longstaff.  £7.5m per season for relatively guaranteed PL quality is not to be sniffed at

Agreed but they have supposedly turned down 25 already and want 50m that's before mbeumo finally went to manu so unless that's all brinkmanship by them an unwilling sellers and a gap in valuation (I will assume we wouldn't commit to 50m on a 29 year old) doesn't lend itself for a quick resolution something we desperately need.

He's the house burger when we were thinking we'd get McDonald's. We're just stuffing it in and telling ourselves it's just as good.

they'll be wanting closer to £50m.

tbh i'm not really bothered what we end up paying.

we need 4 quality additions (not including GK).

if it costs £100m or £150m, or more, i'm not bothered.

we need to invest as its gonna be even more competetive to get into CL places next season.

sell a purple if we fail.

I’d rather have Wissa than Ekitike tbh - I’d rather have someone who I know can do it, rather than someone who might do it (and I have suspicions won’t)

Think some of the comments are really harsh - 20 goals last season, ending the season with 8 in 13 appearances. He’s averaged 1 in 3 throughout 139 games for Brentford and is their top premier league scorer. All our other choices have turned us down and we’re in a market where Chelsea want 100 mil for Jackson, it is what it is and we need another striker ASAP.

We might sell a purple this summer - and probably should have in all honesty

Still struggle to see it at the price point and age. It feels like a Spurs (who can afford to do it) or West Ham (who can't really, but usually do anyway) type signing to me. I get we're talking about a back up to Isak and that's difficult but I expected more creativity than this and I'd worry it's the kind of deal that would drag on for ages.

This one is difficult for me.

I perceived this summer as being an ambitious one given the change in our PSR status. I don't feel like Yoane Wissa typifies an ambitious signing for a club in the Champions League with hopes of pushing higher. That view is reinforced by who we're battling to sign him. I think he's a great signing for a team just outside that top 6 or 7 that want to try and bridge the gap. Watching his highlights paints him as a good athlete and a consistent finisher.

In the same way I had reservations about Bryan Mbeumo repeating his numbers outside of the Brentford system, I do question if Yoane Wissa would get those same types of chances with us. I also wonder if he can be the out ball we need sometimes. That's a question I don't have an answer too as I don't watch enough of him.

The fact he's approaching 29 isn't ideal, but some footballers age more gracefully than others.

i think we get away without selling one as we have money to spend - just not on wages.

you want your purples for a CL campaign.

we fail to qualify next season and its a deffo purple out.

He’s a good striker IMO, especially given he can also run and play wide. Given his age and other options he might also be OK with rotation.

We will see but I’d be relatively happy to get him. Not Ekitike levels of hype, but a good signing.

We really can't have it both ways though, can we? We can't seem to complete for players like Ekitike and Pedro because they're wanted by other clubs with more money. What would you do?

He'd make us a lot stronger for sure if you disregard the PSR angle. But if we are seriously pursuing it, feels like it will end up being another massive waste of time when either Brentford don't sell, or he ends up at Spurs.

There must be other options who aren't quite that proven but are still regarded as up and coming strikers. Like that Evann Guessand for example.

At this moment in time I'd snap your hand off to get Wissa through the door this week. He's clearly a good finisher. Has a decent record at this level and can hit the ground running much like Elanga. Let's not forget he isn't coming to be our first choice and will rotate in when we need to give Isak a rest, he'll get plenty of game time and will offer us a threat when we have to take Isak off which is a whole lot more than Wilson et al did last season, no brainer.

Yes he's a bit of an anticlimax compared to some of the names we've been after but he's still quality.

I like Wissa, he's a good player, but anywhere north of £30m for essentially a 29 year old seems like exactly the kind of deal we don't want to be doing. He'll improve us immediately, by being an option to start alongside Isak or being a very good backup, but unless we're confident of flipping him for £20m in a couple of years I don't see how we can afford this. Unless its a gamble on ensuring CL money for the following 2 seasons. Which if we do, then we can get excited about the club.

Sunderland are playing £30m for nobody’s with prem experience and sold Bellingham for 30 odd mil , again no prem experience . You don’t get these stats for £30m. End of the day he’s 4 years younger than Callum Wilson so what was he like 4 years ago? That’s what I expect we’ll be getting, he’ll give us around 4 years to get our shit in order and get better up front options. He hits the ground up and running and in terms of scoring and sharing the burden - minimal risk.

I think that's why I find it difficult.

We need to improve, both in terms of depth and quality and I'm debating if Wissa satisfies both of this criteria not only now but in 12 months time. If we assume Alexander Isak's future is hard to predict, we need to be mindful of that with who we're signing. In 12 months time would we be content knowing Wissa might have to lead the line for a bit?

My days of watching every football league I could get my hands on are long gone and for that reason I can't list names of who I think we should be going for. Despite that, I would question why our focus seems so intent on domestic signings when our best deals appear to be imports.

4 years is a canny stretch, imo.

We’re not in that bracket of clubs which can offer the salaries needed, ambitions or not.  We’re got the 7th highest turnover in the league, and the gap to 6th is a significant nine figure sum

Share many people's hopes and concerns. His profile is ideal in some respects as a nimble striker who knows how to lead the line and would be dangerous off the bench, but while his age perhaps tempers his own expectations and makes him a suitable fill-in for Isak it also makes him expensive at the touted prices, and after being linked to Pedro and Ekitike he seems very much like a makeshift choice.

I like him and rate him but I also have a hunch that he'd prove a total flop, so I'm going to be the first to dub him 'Wiffa' in anticipation of the expected result.
