Just pay it and you'll be okay for the next 25 years. Just pay it. Pay it. PAY IT.

As much as I enjoy watching fans set precise numbers around player values, transfer fees traditionally were about what the player offered against the cost.  A player’s value is what a club is prepared to pay, not a number you’ve arbitrarily decided upon.

Wissa is a proven PL quality forward who knows where the net is and grafts his bollocks off - if those sort of players don’t excite you, you’re watching the wrong sport.  This is Newcastle United FFS - if there’s anything that we should know about or get excited about, it’s signing goal scorers.

There's a No9 shirt up for grabs!

Too fucking right :)

I love players like Wissa, personally - I’ve said it before but I’d have taken him ahead of Pedro or Ekitike (I was lukewarm on both) when we were linked.  Get the lad in, and assuming Isak stays, watch as he bags 20 goals in all comps despite not being first choice

If we get him, I think he'll do well for us and enjoy his game even more.

Apparently we are playing the waiting game as we're reluctant to pay 40+5- We've sent message to PIF to find out what they think we should do. The homing pigeon hasn't arrived in Saudi Arabia yet due to heavy winds as well as some desert eagles controlling the quickest route there. We expect to hear their reply next week before we decide how to move on.

Agree, who is actually doing the negotiation here ? Does nobody ring up an agent before making a bid and ask what sort of price would get the  deal done ? If it's to high the just walk away.

Kirstie and Phil do it all the time and they don't have any bother.

I'm guessing a budget is assigned to the target with the goal of obviously getting them cheaper. Then negotiations likely carried out by Eales with the assistance of Eddie Nickson and Andy Howe.

I'm assuming our ownerships are leveraged when appropriate

I read yesterday that some agents are representing 2 or 3 parties of the same deal i wonder if it's them holding deals up by negotiating their commission

True but it's not what you want to be doing with an older player who won't appreciate it value.

If we want CL football again next season, what are the alternatives? We need quality to go toe to toe with the cartel clubs.

Like who?

Pick a striker who is score more than 15 goals in any top 5 leagues and is below 24.

Alternatively pick someone younger. Who can develop.

Options exist.

We need someone proven. This is a champions league season. What if Isak misses the first few games? Osula or a slightly better foreign Osula isn’t going to cut it.

Wissa has proven himself in which champions league?

Imo we need someone who can come in and improve season over season. Someone who is ideally 24 or younger but can come in and make an instant impact and learn from one of the best strikers in Europe.

Someone along the lines of Tino or Hall who have had the benefit of training with Trips day and day out.

Orsula is very raw because his development throughout his career hasn't been great. He barely played for a struggling Sheffield United side and continues to barely play for us. Obviously we need someone who's further along than that.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing,  but a house doesn't (normally) generate revenue. If overpaying for a player improves us to the extent that we get top 4 and a nice champions league run for 3 years, then the resulting revenue (not to mention increased sponsorship etc) more than makes up for it.

That would be the ideal of course, but what we really need is someone to make sure we retain champions league this season. An injury to Isak and we're likely back to where we started 12 months down the line of we don't have someone who can pick up his mantle off the bat.

Is Wissa that guy? 🤔

I think we should pay it. The position is too important. It's insurance for Isak and will let us rest him more.

If we were in the market for a 3 bedroom semi and not a top level striker, I would endorse "walking away". There are hundreds of thousands of houses. Plug and play strikers are few and far between.

I do too, we can easily get 3-5 years out of him. I don’t think he’s a player who’d have a massive drop off when entering his 30’s.
