Tbf to Brentford they have every right to demand the fee they deem acceptable.  Losing Mbeumo has upped his worth to them as it could be the difference between survival and relegation.

I understand Wissa's position - this may be his one and only chance to move to a CL club, and on notably higher wages.

To be fair to Brentford though, they could probably say, "our promise last year to let you go for 26m was assuming a lack of extenuating circumstances at that time, eg already losing the manager and Mbuemo".

That being said, quoting anything near 50m seems pretty daft. That's Brentford pretty much trying to price Wissa out of the move.

Edit: CL club not PL club...

Brentford gave him the chance to play in the PL and this is how he repays them.  Pathetic.

He’d probably argue he repaid them by banging in a load of goals last season when their superstar replacement for Toney was injured all season.

Idk if they have promised him a move away and basically gone back on their word I can understand why he's pissed off.

Loyalty isn't a one way street, it goes to clubs too. If they have promised him something they should honor it.

Brentford aren't innocent in all of this (provided the reports are accurate)

Tbf, although you could say you should never demand to leave a club full stop, without knowing the situations of Isak or Wissa, and what either has or hasn’t been promised, it’s a bit of a leap to come to a definitive conclusion about either.

If we criticise Isak for his behaviour, same applies to Wissa.  Poor behaviour

Its crappy behaviour for sure. But did we promise Isak he could leave? By the reports, Brentford promised Wissa he could leave this summer for £26m.

Verbal contract mate.

Not worth the paper it's written on.

Sure but if you expect loyalty from players, you shouldn't be surprised when they act up like this when stuff like this happens.

Even if there's no legal case.

Depends how true that promise of letting him go for £26m is.

If they've told him that then reneged on it then I can see where he's coming from. If it's not true then yeah he's being a bit of a dick about it.

It really is incredible that within the space of a week we went from wow we're signing Ekitike to partner Isak, to Ekitike going to Liverpool, Isak refusing to train so he can go to Liverpool, and being told to pony up £50m for Yoane Wissa or fuck off

That’s the transfer window for you. Plenty more twists and turns for sure

Another transfer saga with this 1.

Just what we need.

This is possibly the most infuriating transfer window in the history of football.

Agree, which is incredible after last summer

It's understandable though, most people would want the chance to at least double their wages. If Wissa is on 25k a week he could probably quadruple it at Newcastle.

I'd be kind of surprised if this happens. For the same reason we can't sell isak Brentford cant selll wissa either because they'd be totally screwed if they do.

Entitled, spoilt pricks usually.

Much more to do with financial freedom. If my employer said something to me then went back on their promise I’d love to tell them to fuck off and say I’ll never work for them again. I think most people would

I think it’s fair to assume that as long as they feel internally that they can avoid relegation, they don’t care about their short term performance as much as we do.
