The assumption is needed to push the straw man argument.

 it isn't strawman at all. Our PSR limitations mean we can't afford to miss, even at the expense of *GASP* not having everyone in for matchday one.

This idea that the club is infallible though is ridiculous tbh, without the Isak debacle not having a Wilson replacement in is really poor.

As always, I'm not saying they're infallible, I'm prickling at the totally unfair accusations of shambles, 'indefensible' etc.

If you don't mean 'worse' and no one else means worse...why keep saying worse?

Because that's more punchy!

It basically does mean worse though, at least in the minds of our recruiters. They don't think they're as good as option to spend our money on.

It’s definitely worthy of criticism that we still haven’t replaced Wilson, that’s been on the cards for 2 years.

The Wissa deal seems complicated by the AFCON issue, I'm wondering if that's why it's not sorted yet.

I get the feeling that we might go for a Wissa/Jackson partnership to eventually replace Isak altogether, but AFCON etc.

An alternative might have been Wissa/Kalimuendo...but then we don't get Wissa because Kalimuendo is lined up to be Brentford's replacement for Wissa.

That’s why we offered Wilson another deal. Ambition. Have a word. Eddie aside the club is a mess.

Isak doesn't act the prick, there's no rush. We have 3 weeks to bide our time and get Wissa who's pretty clearly near the top of our pile when it comes to our Wilson replacement. Very short term and pretty crap of the club if it pisses its pants and gets a lesser target for the sake of 2-3 games just because Isak's left us in the lurch. I don't think the club was accounting for that. No one was 3-4 weeks ago.

I'd prefer Kalimeundo to be honest. No AFCON.

Depends on whether you think our 'better' targets are a continuation of our recruitment policy or a divergence from it.

Everyone agrees that our ability to improve players means 'worse' still means better.

Leaving it this late before the start of the season basically means we've let perfect be the enemy of better imo.

We just need to sort it. Whatever our strategy is. We could have dropped 9pts by the time a striker is signed... pessimistic view but quite possible

I'd rule out any player that could dissappear for a month over Christmas. Bloody AFCON. Lots of good French strikers still available.

I don't know enough about him, but generally I like to buy players with a higher ceiling rather than a 29 year old, but Wissa is proven so I can understand why we don't want to take any chances.

I would agree with that. My position I suppose is that A, I can't hate us for chasing perfect and B, I think we're cornered into operating that way because of PSR.

It doesn't make us a shambles or the summer a COLOSSAL FAILURE, particularly considering everything else that's happened, and the fact it isn't finished.

Kalimeundo is 23, scored 17 in 30 and is valued at around 30 million, plus no AFCON.

We failed to score in the 4 games he missed last season but there’s no rush to get a backup striker in to be ready for the start of the season. Yeah, ok.

Just watched a highlights video and while I know that's never a full picture I saw enough to make me think Brentford will come out of that very well if they swap him out for Wissa. Kalimuendo looks two footed, can pick a pass and can finish. I would be happy to see us go in for him tbh.

Very much doubt we’ll be in for Kalimuendo. Our current recruitment strategy is like the bit in Fight Club where they have to stand outside the house for a week. Our targets need to be on the shortlist for at least a year before we’ll acknowledge them.

That's what I meant, we should go for him, Brentford can keep Wissa.
