But I was also a bit worried because Howe worked with Defoe at Bournemouth, and it was a complete failure there. Maybe Howe just can't bring the best out of this type of players. He was 35 when he joined Bournemouth tbf so clearly a Wilson back up?

Bournemouth fans may know what happened there much better than me, but apparently Defoe isn't too happy about Howe. https://talksport.com/football/857175/eddie-howe-jermain-defoe-forced-out-bournemouth/ Tbf his stats was much better with the Mackems (he was 33-34 there) and with Rangers (tho you could argue that the Scottish PL is easier). Players often fall off a cliff around that age, I don’t think it’s a fair comparison re Howe. eg Shearer 2003/04 (33) and 2005/06 (35) were v different players Edited February 11 by Superior Acuña
The College Dropout
Howe is sick of this lad too huh? Behind Osula in the pecking order. Should be embarrassed.
Ben
Time to wake up kidda, something is wrong if you dont get brought on to run the lines in this game
Newcastle Fan
I said after last game but if he's not fit there is no point in playing him, good call putting Ousla on as he at least was trying his best to press their defenders.
La Parka
Fair balls Eddie making the big decisions.

A massive message. And to be honest...they way Wissa presented himself in the last game...I'm fully behind Howe.
Pilko
Definitely think Eddie was sending a message to him by putting Osula on. He might be raw and a bit crap but he busts his arse and presses and that's what we need this old bugger to start doing.

Gordon with two good games as a striker now, but the striker situation is a mess. We cant have strikers for 120m sitting on the bench, they need to contribute. Ben
Time for the Saudis to step up and take him off our hands, I'd take £75 million, £74 million at a push.
black_n_white
Just now, Ben said: Time for the Saudis to step up and take him off our hands, I'd take £75 million, £74 million at a push. That was the argument for people in the summer, flog him to Saudi in 2 years they said. Pathetic.

I know you’re joking, but selling him for £41m would be ‘cost neutral’ and would be very difficult for UEFA & the PL to argue against given we paid £55m …
Superior Acuña
Do wonder what tonight will mean for him (and Nick to extent but more him) - best we’ve played in a while and it was with Gordon in middle, would hope we stick with it, fitness allowing. Kanj
I’d ship him to turkey or Saudi and Nick back to Germany. Some respectable fee. We need to give Eddie a different line next season.
TRC
I’m starting to question if Wissa was even a Howe signing.
timeEd32
Equally likely that he was being given a full rest vs having a message sent. Maybe a bit of both. Mentioned in another thread that he was one of the five fastest strikers in the PL last season. That’s not the player we’ve seen thus far. I still think we’re going to get a much, much better player in the future. The problem is it might be next season.

llcoolc157
Seemed pretty happy celebrating with the lads at the end… maybe there’s more to it ie has he fully recovered to the levels Eddie wants.. he says clutching at straws…
Fak
4 hours ago, TRC said: I’m starting to question if Wissa was even a Howe signing. We showed interest in him early doors once Ekitike moved to Liverpool. And there was nobody else at the club (ie. a DOF) to force Wissa onto him? alexf
Likely starts with nick at villa I imagine. I'd say priorities will be CL, league and then fa cup so I expect those rested tonight will start at weekend. Edited February 11 by alexf
