We're not going to replace Isak though. Its going to be someone coached into the role.

When Isak signed, he wasn't as good as he is now.

Which is why we shouldn’t contemplate selling Isak this late in the window.

I agree that we tried to show ambition. The intention was good, but evidently it may have been too much too soon? Were these players realistically going to pick us? I'd say no for most of them.

All of them would have come here if the 'big' clubs didn't want them with their money bags and prestige. Us losing every single target to someone else has been very unlucky and then you add the Isak fiasco on top of that. It's been a shitshow but can't only blame us.

Well.. I also want to live in a world where those teams don't want the most obvious targets.

As someone who works in the world of M&A it's eating at my soul to see how people only look at the deal itself in a vacuum and don't factor in the lack of inactivity last summer/winter for many clubs. The time we are freed from PSR shackles happened to line up with a time where City, Liverpool and Man United have decided to go big in the transfer market. But hey, a DOF or CEO hired in the last 12 months would have been able to sell the club to X player!

Probably being petty but I’d prefer that than selling to Liverpool.

It's more about optics. We sell to Liverpool who've blatantly tapped him up we look incredibly weak and have provided everyone in the world with a blueprint on how to get any player from us.

We sell to Liverpool for less than the 150m (which is way to low) then obviously we are absolutely pathetic and have essentially rolled over for them.

And to add on nobody can force us to do anything despite all of the noise from the media and the likes of Romano it's our call. We either have balls or we don't.

If we were going to play it like this. The best way to do it might be to sign two strikers, knowing we can cash in next June to cover PSR.

Absolutely aye, we don't even need to sell in June (in fact June next summer will be the same as selling this summer as it's the same fye for most clubs).

Need to wait and see how this plays out before judging it.

What signings have we done that are the equivalent to Delap, Joao Pedro, Cunha, Mbeumo, Sesko, Ekitike, etc? These either had an absolutely massive season in the PL this season, or were the amongst the hottest targets in the market (or both). We have not been able to land those type of players earlier. Heck, we weren't even able to land Ekitike and Pedro before their real breakthrough, despite having money to spend. It's not just about timing.

I must be one of the only few people that doesn't mind Jackson. Was it 13 and 14 goals in Prem without Pens.  Coming with a mindset of you were not good enough. Young. Quick. Tireless worker and young enough to improve.

Its us vs them mentality. Bring on a few more players with something to prove. Let Eddie work!

From Hope

"An £80m asking price has been actively circulated by Chelsea. But here is our information… they will deal at £60m with Newcastle. There is a relationship between Newcastle and Chelsea via Saudi connections, and informal talks have taken place over the striker’s availability and situation.

On the back of that, he is on Newcastle’s shortlist, and I’m hearing that some among the hierarchy are keen, given his Premier League experience and age (24 in June). However, I’m told that others will be pursued first.

Don’t forget, Jackson is suspended for the first game of the season, after being sent off at Newcastle in May for landing his elbow in the face of Sven Botman. Incidents like that raise doubt among the football staff, given their want for good characters.

The Senegalese is not thought to be a bad character per se, but he is more of a gamble in that regard compared to the likes of Wissa, Larsen and some others.

Don’t rule this out, but a move for Jackson would only come if other options do not happen. There is a player to work with, for sure, and a negotiated price at closer to £60m could make sense to some, but I haven’t really picked up strong vibes on this one during the past couple of weeks, including my time in the Far East.

Newcastle don’t want to sign players for the sake of it - it has to be the right player at the right price."

I could see Howe really feeding into this mindset this season and the team being an absolute bastard to play against. Bring it on.
