Thinking ahead, where do you think the fanzone would be for the Leverkusen game? In Düsseldorf or Köln? Still undecided as to where to book a room tomorrow

Both cities are a 15 minute train ride to Leverkusen

Are the best logistics for leverkusen from Newcastle basically to fly to Düsseldorf? Seems to be the most frequent flights there but I’m awful at these things so will probably book the wrong continent

That or Schipol and then a connection or train to Dusseldorf. It’s what we did for Dortmund. Personally I’ll think we’ll try and base ourselves out of Dusseldorf again. It’s a good city for drinking/links. Day of the match I reckon Koln might be a shout, as Leverkusen has fuck all.

Marseille would be class if I wasn't worried I'll get stabbed

Need to watch the Marseilles Polis waving their batons about as well.

It’s a crazy experience though and cracking atmosphere, just need to be careful around the Port late at night.

We went there in 2004 with Keith Barrett. XL Airlines charter from Newcastle to Nice and we stayed in Cannes which was a canny place. Got bussed in and out of Marseille on matchday and remember it just looking rough as fuck. Could never have stayed there.

Probably the most mental home fans I've experienced as well. Atmosphere was off the scale.

Really want to go but a package like this is the only way id do it. Not sure its even possible if the club insist on a ticket collection in Marseille

I think it would have kicked off properly in 2004 if Marseille hadn’t won, instead we got a Zulu style shoe of respect from their ultras, the bit when they chanted from one end to the other was unbelievable. I was staying in nice and had to wait hours for the train back, was a very edgy place and wouldn’t go back in a hurry.

I reckon we play the Under 14s against PSV, and the Under 12's against Union SG.

Yet more evidence of the agenda against Newcastle United.

Sick of it.

I don't think I've encountered a city that changes as much at night as Marseille. Need to keep your wits about you after dark. I nearly got filled in after the match but somehow it ended up with us all smoking a spliff in a bus shelter (think it would have been very different if we had won).

An old mate of mine was there for the England game in 98 and spent a few hours locked in a shop that was attacked with bowling balls being lobbed through the windows.

Bit of footage at the end of this clip of us in the OM Bar before the Marseille ultras arrived on boats to take it back (clip ends before the fun began).

Was there in 2016. Saw the England fans takeover the square so me and Neesy decided to go 100 yards away around a quiet corner. Come back 2hrs later and the square was bloodstained and broken glass post war zone. Very lucky.

Have another anecdote inside the ground if demand is there.

Marseille is definitely top of my list for a football weekend trip, just not as an opposing fan!  French police also seem to be the worst in Europe for crowd control, they always seem desperate to bring out the tear gas

So due to me needing to meet Neesy ASAP outside the ground due phone battery about to die and wanting to avoid crowds I was stood waiting at the stairwell for the ref to blow the final whistle so I could dash straight out.

Moments before this a firework went up in the air (turned out the signal for the Russian ultras to congregate and attack the English fans again) and also Russia equalised.

Whistle blew and I dashed straight down the stairs to head to train station and meet Neesy oblivious the end I was in turned into carnage again as fights broke out everywhere in it

Could’ve been a very different trip altogether!
