This - Until UEFA bin the ridiculous prize money based on club coefficients (which they never will because of the threat of the "superleague") being in any european competition is far better than missing out - need to build ours up significantly

This... just looked it up and Aston Villa are now only 3 points behind Man Utd in their coefficient. I swear they had the conference league when we were first in the CL, am I right? So they have been in Europe far more than us and it shows.

It impacts revenue, doesn’t it?

Absolutely, its called the "Value Pillar" and is based on a 10 year coefficient score to ensure establish, top-ranked European clubs receive a higher base revenue share or as I like to call it, cheating

See the goals reel that's been doing the rounds, scored some pretty nice goals and finishes for us in the first half of the season, hard to believe he's just not worth having up front any more.

Probably a bit simplistic but I'd like to see Woltemade at home and Gordon away

For a holding midfielder to be considered amongst the favorites for the Golden Boot is pretty special stuff. I think Eddie really has taken his game to new heights.

2026 World Cup Golden Boot Odds (Top Candidates)

Kylian Mbappé (France): +600

Harry Kane (England): +700

Lionel Messi (Argentina): +1200

Erling Haaland (Norway): +1400

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal): +1800

Lautaro Martinez (Argentina): +2000

Ousmane Dembélé (France): +2000

Eddie Howe likes to play with a striker who has a lot of  pace. I think they thought Woltamade was a lot quicker than what he actually is but maybe didn’t realise that till they seen him first hand because he was a bit of a panic buy.

If our scouting Department was so bad, we should let the the forum decide who we target.

Apart from Grabban, Wilson, Adobe, Solanke, Wood and Woltamade, lightening quick.

He went AGES without scoring whilst playing up front didn't he?

And until recently, Gordon had scored exactly one goal in the run of play in 14 months. All strikers hit rough patches. Most are maybe benched for a bit while they work their way through it, but nobody gets shuffled off to a position they've never played as a result. Woltemade is, and always has been, our best striker this season, but our refusal to adapt our formation and tactics makes him a man without a position in Eddie's predictable and stale system. And if they thought he'd be faster, then they didn't watch the film very well, did they? That's not his game.

Even so, somebody here compared the EPL points we earned in the standings with him up top versus not. We were strikingly (pun intended) more efficient in getting results and amassing points with Nick up top.

Last league goals were against Chelsea, then he was hooked for Wissa at Man Utd next game, and then started being alternated with Wissa each game after that.

Not sure exactly when he started being tried in the midfield role, but may have been *around* the Man City LC 2nd leg match, after 10 matches of rotation with Wissa.

Said it before, but definitely think that rotation didn't help either of them from then on.

Does anyone think he would look better in a different system, or is it he just isn't cut out for English football?

I've thought for a while the latter. I think he's a good player, but doesn't possess the urgency to get in the box if he drops deep. However, he's young and I hope he can adapt.

Like most forwards not named Haaland or Mbappe at the minute, he'd look miles better if he had players closer to him. Plenty of times when even Isak looked useless for us when he was stood up top by himself and we were just lumping balls at him. Albeit of course he did have a bit of magic in him too.

We probably can't make him run quicker (although apparently we worked with Sandro on his pace but he was rapid anyway, so presumably a bit of a marginal gain) but he can: learn not to take as many touches of the ball, get stronger, learn how to be a shithouse, improve his movement and what he does in and around the box. I think for the latter point we probably massively underestimate the difference between playing upfront alone and in a two. If he's used to being the second striker and making his movement into the box off what the main number 9 does, it's incredibly difficult to adapt in a league you're used to, let alone one that is new and where everything is happening at 100mph. Particularly so when our team in general isn't great at supporting into the box either, so if he's not where the ball goes the reaction is "he's shit" but where was the movement off what he did? Whether he can suss out the bit that he's in control of and be effective in the box on his own will ultimately determine the answer to the second question for me.

*Usual note that I think he's absolutely class.

I don't disagree with anything you have said EXCEPT the Haaland name drop as if he's not been struggling for that exact reason.

He's been starved of reliable service and forced to play up top with little supoprt in a system that doesn't suit his talent.

He's still scored tons because he's an exceptional player, but his skillset is being totally wasted by Guardiola. He's a monster when he's running at defenders and playing one twos and making clever runs. Pep seems to wants him to wrestle all game and occupy the defenders so other plays can develop (it often doesn't work).

Yeah that's fair on Haaland, I think he's a bit of a strange case in that he's ridiculously streaky aswell, I'd much rather have a Kane/Shearer type who scores most weeks than Haaland who'll score 20 in 15 and look unstoppable but then score 5 in 20. He's always been like that though, it's what's stopping him being a top, top striker in my mind. Although obviously he's still very good!

The wrestling is weird aswell. He's surprisingly easy to bully out of games so I don't know why Pep encourages it, just get the bloody ball into his feet quickly and on the half turn and, as you say, let him run at people.

Apparently with this new formation they play though he's creating more chances for others than ever before. Suppose Pep gonna Pep isn't he [emoji38]
