Have second strikers ever worked well at NUFC?

Ayoze I guess was decent anyone else?

Tomasson no

Gallacher no

Bellamy yes

Owen as the withdrawn one sort of yes

Gouffran no

Asprilla was fun but not really

forgot the main one Beardsley was awesome so probably no one since him

Ferdinand and Ferguson were both effective but they were line leaders in their own right.

One of Howe's limitations as a football coach (there are a few) is he couldn't fit a footballing style around this guy who is clearly talented and offers a very high ceiling dimension

Very very talented lad unfortunately playing for the wrong coach

I've accepted he'll do well elsewhere.

To be fair, he did come in very very late in that window.

Will be interesting to see if they cook something up to try and get more out of him that benefits the team, now the season's done.

It's just such a shame that it's a World Cup summer, as that won't help things. Then again maybe they can pick things up from how he's used in the Germany setup. Hope he does well in the tournament and they scout those games.

Of all the criticisms of Howe, not getting the best out of Wolte ISN'T something I think is tremendously valid. Lad has a lot of fundamental holes in his game.

Maybe our scouts just watch the greatest hits compilations on YouTube. See Elanga and Wissa too. I'd love all 3 to come good personally. Will they? fook knows.

I just think we were in a position of crisis management to various extents through the season, rarely in a position where Howe believed we could experiment, introduce new things and risk introducing a player like Woltemade slowly like we would've wanted.

I don't think this season necessarily means that we'll never be able to get anything out of Nick.

Well if you listen to Howe, he is still making noises that we will see the best of Woltemade next season.

Not sure he's saying that with a straight face, but if we sell it would presumably be for a significant loss. I'm not sure I see that happening either.

Wissa on the other hand Im baffled how they are not getting any football out of him.

I don't have any expectations. Maybe he stays and is great. Maybe he leaves and goes into obscurity. No idea. He's 24 and has had 1 good 12 months in his career. I expect he's always been a bit soft and passive. Things clicked... and now have unclicked.

I feel like it was a bit like the new manager effect. Opponents quickly learned how to nullify him, and our attack with him in it.

Couldn't disagree more - it's not like he inherited this player.  He chose to spend a club record fee on him.  And as he keeps saying the club cannot afford to get a signing wrong.

He was forced to sign him because 4-5 of his preferred options signed elsewhere.

I don't know another scenario where you'd hold anyone else to full account when they only had the 6th best option at their disposal.

Am sorry but no one forced Eddie to spend a record fee on Nick - he chose to.

Is he ”very very talented” though? I’m doubtful.

What choice did he have? What were his other options?

Keeping Isak was one of them. Ridiculous spending £70 mil on a player if you've no idea as to how to fit them into your team.

I think he’s talented in the box. He’s a smart finisher. He just doesn’t have the speed and fitness to press the way Eddie wants our striker to.

We experienced 2 different summer transfers windows.

I feel like you missed most of it re: Isak.

No top level club that operates properly would let a manager dictate who the club spends big money on so I don’t care about all of that. We signed Woltemade because we didn’t have a proper scouting, transfer committee and DOF system in place.  Thats on ownership.

There's a lot of revisionism on here.

We could never have kept Isak

We failed to get anyone else before Nick

Most of us on here were absolutely delighted when he signed, salivating over YouTube clips, calling sour grapes on Bayern for saying we overpaid, and gloating at Man U and Arsenal when he started better than Sesko and Gyokeres.

Second half of the season it has gone wrong somehow, but I still think Eddie will find a way for it to work. And if not, I think he will find success elsewhere. And if not, it at least wasn't obvious to everyone he would fail before he arrived.

I don't see any world where Wolt becomes a success for us or for anyone in the premier league, he needs to play somewhere a lot slower and less physical. If we could get any remotely reasonable amount for him we should sell. And whoever made the decision to sign such an unsuitable player should resign or have been sacked.
