I honestly don't believe Germany will go deep. They'll no doubt get out of the group but they'll go out to the first half decent side they face. Worst German team in my lifetime.

That being said, I'm only 3 years old 👶

Amazing writing skills for a three year old.

They probably won't get past France in last 16 of they both win their groups.

Was at both the Charlton and QPR capitulations, so no wonder I always expect the worst. Remember at half-time in the QPR game we were singing All we want for Christmas is a plastic pitch”.

Was at this game. ??? :(

Mood music on Big Nick doesn't seem good over last couple of days?

Germans always seemed to have a knack of rising to the occasion when it comes to WC finals. I never write them off tbh, would be typical if a waster like Havertz ends up being one of the leading goalscorers this time round.

Their 2014 team was about the best I remember seeing. I know they were very highly acclaimed so not necessarily "rising to the occasion" but man were they a good side. I remember not believing my eyes watching them dispatch Brazil 7-1 in the semis.

That was a great team tbh, but even when they supposedly don't have a good side, they always seem to do better than expected. Been very few WCs where they just turned up and got mullered.

Yeah they were an incredible side, I remember having Sky Sports News on the day after and I think it was Tony Gale in the studio reviewing the game and he was basically going on like Germany were a team of jobbers that no-one had heard of. In fairness a lot of the chat at the time did get focused on how bad Brazil were but that was next level.

As an aside I really liked the Heynckes Bayern treble winning side from around that era aswell, they don't get anywhere near as much attention as they should for me when people talk about the great club sides

Heynckes was so underrated IMO. Rarely gets spoken about.

Jupp I agree.

Been a long time since a German side put a great shift in at a major tournament.  Quarters in the last 2 Euros maybe.
Prior to 2016 they were perennial contenders. Semis and finals.

In Europe there’s been a pretty big power shift. Away from Germany and Italy where at least 1 would get to the semis of every major tournament through the 80s, 90s, 00s.

What would we get for Woltemade if we sold him in the summer?

I'm of the opinion if we are selling one of him or Wissa, it's more likely to be Wolt.

He has no future here - unless he starts the last 3 games - I don’t see how this now changes

Last time he started as a full on 9 was in Jan vs PSG

He’s very talented and if we build a right structure behind him, he’ll succeed but it’s whether Howe can see this

But only because we wouldnt recoup any money for Wissa 😕

I think mainly because there's no way he works in a Howe set up.

I said in the Gordon thread that IF he goes, and we end up with a different profile of winger who can leave him less isolated, I'd like to see if we can get the best out of him.

One season in the PL is a pretty steep learning curve for quite an unusual player, who does have real vision and technique if not the physical presence (yet) to be a standard no 9, certainly not in our familiar system.

It would be a shame if we couldn't find a way to make it work and bring his talents out in my opinion, but sometimes you have to accept when it doesn't work. I don't want to see him sat on the bench for another half season either way.

I don’t think the last 3 games mean much. Much more important is what he’s being told behind the scenes and the plans around building next season’s squad.

Their lack of dominating CF is their major issue, including their spacing and play style. If Nick was more poacher / 6 yard box hawk then they’d be set. It’s just really odd given the embarrassment of talent they have. However, they could pop off in the WC and make a run imho. Feel like it’s of something just clicking for them.

Think there has been a lot wrong with German football. Top class teams outside of Bayern barely have German players anymore.

Which is what I was saying - the profile around him doesn’t work and it doesn’t work for any of our strikers nor the team

The right winger needs to be inverted - at least allow the RB to overlap too - give us more attacking options

On paper Gordon should link up very well with Woltemade TBH, so should Barnes. They're both able to come inside well and they both are more scorers than assisters.

They just haven't really been played together enough to develop a relationship.

No more than whatever Bayern bid, and even then I think we might need to loan him out for a season first.

Still very possible, Howe never gives up on a player and we have a summer where we can tweak what we need. As long as we feel Nick is working hard and wants to do better, which I'm hopeful he does.

Howe would have to change his whole football ethos to accomodate Nick IMO.

He only works in a possession based system, and even then I am not sure about having a CF who lacks pace. I suppose if you have two wide forwards feeding off him it could work, but seems miles away from how we set up currently.
