I do now question how Howe views the game and squad management mind.

Like no plan to make 2 forwards in the same team work the way Pep would play Alvarez with Haaland. He just wants one to sit on the bench.

Wants a football team with barely any playmakers. Just direct pace on the wing no guile.

How is this meant to scale?

This is why we need a change, it’s run its course. It’s been even more apparent in the last few games.

I'm praying Howe can evolve.

Or scouts can uncover creative workhorses like Bruno or Szoboslai that can play wing or 8.

He's gone 5 at the back but we need a genuine 4 ATB alternative to the flat 4-3-3.

The second leg against Qarabag was when I lost faith in that. The whole world could see he needed to play the kids and second string. And as per almost every match bar I think one or two FA Cup early round games over the past 4 years, he's put out an unnecessarily strong side to a game we were playing extra to everyone else (playoff), and then we wonder why we've got no engine in the last 20 minutes of every game and put it down to tactics and the high-intensity - but it's more than that.

Eddie Howe is a very intelligent man, I'd love to hear his unguarded reasoning behind some of his decisions like that one. Maybe the kids were all tossing it off in training assuming they'd play, we just don't know.

And then he played a too-weak team against City at home in the Cup. Didn't make any sense. Why go so (relatively) hard early... to ease off (relatively) when it matters most?

The Barca away game was the most naive i've ever seen him. Poor idea from the start, Unbelievable setup and stayed with it way too long.

Dan Burn bombing up the left wing against Barcelona was bizarre.

  • 2 weeks later...

On the face of it the Miley contract is another tick in the box for him to go with the Botman one.

Although he’ll be judged from what happens transfer-wise this summer, obviously.

Maybe I'm being mean spirited but isn't this the lowest hanging fruit?

Yes, probably, but open goals still need to be tapped in.

He’s done that, now time to knock in some long-rangers…

That's true, he's not the sporting director equivalent of Yoanne Wissa, that is a relief.

Just have to be better. Recruiting is everything. Talent ID shapes football clubs.

Bournemouth bought:

Hill for 2m

Truffert for 14m

Django for 23m

Semenyo for 11m

Senesi for 13m

Hujisen for 12m

Kerkez for 15m

Christie for 3m

Tavernier for 10m

Rayan for 28m

All within the last 5 years and most within the last 2-3 years.

That's one hell of a group of EPL-standard players.

You either win by selling for profit, or win by getting great on-field outputs and winning games.

Scouting is where massive effort should be directed.

Looks great on paper,  Trouble is, if we were after any of those players, we'd be paying at least $10 million more for each,  Just because it's newcastle.

That would still be 20-40m cheaper than Elanga 😆

I expect signings starting in June. No excuses. A fool can see we’re fucking shit. If Willock is still here next season the club is fucked

If I can play devil's advocate, it's a lot different signing players for Bournemouth versus us.

There's definitely some on that list we could and should have gone for (Rayan being one), but there's a few I wouldn't even touch now like Tavernier.
