Tbf it’s not the end of the world if we have other targets lining up. In fact a well-functioned recruitment system should always have a lot of choices.

Wilson still has a lot of room to operate, if he is competent

In our first transfer window we missed out on Carlos and Botman. We pivoted to land our first choice midfielder on Bruno and signed Burn as a fall back.

That window we also missed out on Ekitike and a player from Serie A who's name escapes me.

Not every transfer will materialise, we just need to make sure there's a plan to mitigate those that don't and avoid a repeat of last summer.

I suspect Munoz was wanted because amongst other things, he was significantly cheaper than other options, so we may have to trim the budget elsewhere.

usual lack nuance on NO.

1. There's things that we could've done better.

2. It's also not the end of the world. Plenty more fish in the sea.

Think everyone realises point 2, not everyone accepts point 1.

I’d have it the other way round

Many people think this is a disaster, not many people accept we can do most things right and still miss out.

Plenty more Elangas and Wissas in the sea for sure

Not to be obtuse, but ultimately who cares about point two? It's splitting hairs. If we sign a quality replacement, all will be forgotten.

Swear we did better with Charnley. If Demba Ba had just been relegated with WHAM in this day and age, we wouldn’t be in for him. We wouldn’t get the likes of Cabaye, Sissoko and Tiote.

Honestly I'd love to blame Ross Wilson, it would make me feel so much better.

But the reality is, we are like a cheetah doing all the hard work to bring down the prey, but a pack of cartel hyenas is hovering in the background to move in for the kill. The game is rigged. We have to keep trying, but we can't go up against the big guns armed with a pea shooter.

We were lucky that in the few windows after the takeover, we had a lot of headroom given how Ashley had ran us, whereas the ‘big 6’ didn’t have as much spending power as they usually had and had to be more selective. They’re just scattergunning for talent now. We need to be smarter and not piss about as we’re looking like the option of last resort.

who thinks this is a disaster? Lads highlight reel isn't even that impressive, most never heard of him until the other day

yeah people not getting the key thing here - the frustration is that he was ID'd as a key replacement for Gordon. We sold Gordon. We spent over 2 weeks getting this deal across the finish line only for all the good vibes to go silent and in a matter of a few hours, Liverpool got the deal done. It's been reported that we KNEW of Liverpool's interest since day 1. It's been reported that we were told he has no desire to go there, he wants to play for us. Great. So how about we rip the bandaid off and get him to sign the deal that day then. If he's the player the scouts and club want, then move heaven and earth to pay a fee the selling club won't refuse, and make the player sign the deal that day.  AND, if he doesn't want to do that, you move on. We could have had that sorted out in 48 hours. How? Pay the release clause and make yourself the only game in town.

Exactly. Some say there’s nothing we could do, but that’s not true. We had everything at our hands and yet blundered. If we have player agree terms and club agree fee and yet still don’t get it done, then it’s incompetence, nothing else.

Yep. If he doesn't sign you know where we stand.

This is what we did the first time for Etikite. Can't blame us there. Didn't dally with a fee or personal terms but it became quickly apparent he was waiting on PSG. No issues. We did the same eventually for Isk and got our man in 4 days. We knew the pricetag was big - when we decided we would make a deal, we pursued it ruthlessly.

Do we really know for sure though? If the club has made a statement on this fair do's but I'm not trusting one thing out of any journalists gob.

We've already added a new goalkeeper and it's not even July.

We signed a goalkeeper from the second division of France.

We’ve lost Trippier, no links to another RB.
Gordon gone, one link to a replacement who’s signed for someone else.

This is very reminiscent of last year’s window.

If we can’t get the top players because of the cartel six, sign some top Championship players because they WILL be playing in the Premier League sooner or later. Start competing for Brighton, Brentford and Everton’s targets.

The scale of work to be done on the squad means we shouldn’t be hanging around. Brighton have a right back and a winger through the door for example and their scale of squad revamp won’t be as brutal as ours should be.

Exactly. Honestly, I was jealous when they appointed Ritchie. Know he hasn't done anything yet but feel like he's got fire in his belly and ambitious as well as being a charismatic person.
