Is it a pen. By thr letter of the law probably yes. Does the player dive. Absolutely.  We put ourselves in that situation. Story of the season. Tryvto protect a one goal lead.

Botman pulling Lerma's shirt for absolutely no reason there whatsoever and giving him the chance to then throw himself to the floor, deserved the pen against him for sheer stupidity alone.

Stale as fuck from top to bottom.

Management stale with no new ideas, players stale with absolutely no guts or guile.

Sweeping changes across the board is the minimum required, because this is so far from good enough and what we’ve seen in the past.

Wasn't a great performance by any means but again we weren't bad

Took what I think was a deserved lead and until Mateta came on thought we controlled it well enough away from home.

Their first was a combination of individual errors. Murphy giving it away under no pressure in an awful position. Ramsdale not smothering the ball. Livramneto doing whatever the fuck he was doing.

Then the penalty. I mean what do you say to that except there'd be 10 penalties a game if we are giving those.

Frustrating and the story of our season so far.

Mateta's celebration is great.

A vintage Howe 25/26 performance. Only really looked effective attacking on the break. Bad ball retention and couldn't control the tempo. Defensively sloppy, no real ambition to seal the game second half.

No real improvement or change in approach. If Howe is still learning, it's at an unobservable glacial pace. His gameplan is embarrassingly stale right now.

Bright spots:

- Osula was decent. Not just the goal but did better than I can remember him doing with his back to goal and holding it up.

- Tino has taken himself firmly out the shop window. He's been so unbelievably poor aerially since he came back from injury. Against Barca, the Palace chance hit the bar, then their first. Has he always been so poor in the air? My affection for him as a player as really blinded me to it [emoji38]

Clearly a personnel problem as well as a tactical one.

If you’re the board of a team who are gunna always be up against it from a financial regulation perspective is it easier to rebuild a squad or see if a new manager can get a tune out of them - it’s really that simple.

The teams we are (apparently) trying to compete with can all afford to have as many bad transfer windows as they are they want - our margins are that fine that one bad window can have a knock on effect for years.

I simply don’t trust Howe any more take us to the next level - his tunnel vision with premier league players has fucked us royally

This is all really hard to explain. What are we doing?

It's difficult to pick out anything to be hopeful about or any sign that things might change. How many times can we do this in a season?

The season now is a pure write-off. We're not getting into Europe so how do we start a rebuild from here?

It has absolutely nowt to do with Howe. If I thought it was a pen I'd be blaming Botman. You see those holds about 10 times per match and they're never ever given. Thinking that's a pen is mental.

It was blatant as fuck. You can’t pull someone’s shirt that obviously, when letter of the law, it is a foul. Then complain afterwards when the penalty is given.

How is a foul never a penalty? I don’t even think it is soft. But even if it was, it is a foul based on the laws of the game. How can people grumble here?

Just lazy and brain dead from Botman. Go and get tight to him and slyly pull

his shirt, maybe. Just stand there while he runs off with a fistful of shirt. Moronic.

Anyway. Happy to agree to disagree here. As I’m mental for agreeing with the rulebook, apparently. So you do you mate and make some more excuses for Howe and the team.

A point away to Palace would have been okay when there's 5 points between 6th and 13th.

Fair enough but if we want to get past okay we need to learn how to control games when winning and kill it off. 25 points dropped from winning positions is the equivalent of over 8 losses, that's over 20% of the season.

I almost admire the purity of how appaling that was.

Team performance, individuals, manager, result, response, mentality, growth, effect on overall season.

On to the next stage of forlorn hope we'll come good and were not in fact now shite - in the pressure free absolutely nothing to play for era of the remainder of the season.

How many points have we now lost from winning positions? I could accept a bad season to a degree but it is such a worrying trend that it happens constantly

I games like this when your holding on you can't have a knackered miley and a poor Murphy on the pitch all game and hope for the best.

we seem to go like for like in our subs all the time, no slight tweaks to stop there danger man Mateta nothing.

Yeah 100% this, it’s not even like Lerma is a notorious aerial threat, he’s 5ft 9

He has never looked comfortable in the air the whole time he has been here.

I guess that's a pen by the letter of the law, but you also know that none of the next 20 similar challenges will be given as a pen.
