Mad we were close to having Chelsea in the last 16 of CL. Would’ve one of shittest last 16 ties of all time surely

Indeed.

My point is also that we usually perform quite well against better teams, but it’s as we always match the level of the opposition.

The shittier team we meet, the worse we play.

i am absolutely not surprised we played half decent against Arsenal today. Of course not enough to get anything.

Same will happen against Brighton as well.

Wasn’t it just last season when we annihilated all the bottom 8 teams?

Yes, last season.

But let’s be honest, second part of last season showed quite clear signs of where we are today.

Do you genuinely think that was a good performance? Better than expected? On par with what we're capable of?

I'm honestly not wasting my time being dragged down to the morbidity on here. If everyone thinks that performance was as bad as they expected they're dreaming imo.

Which parts (not a dig)?

Other than the final day flatness v Everton I recall us largely being very good.

You might be right, I haven’t really checked. Just remember feeling we ended the season quite uninspired after the good run around the final.

I barely ever post TBH, at least not to any great extent beyond the odd throw away comment, and I certainly don't get drawn into the weeds of the analysis these days. But I watched that entire game, and I can confirm I wasn't dreaming.

It was by no means awful to any hyperbole, but it was absolutely not better than expected to the extent where you can see it as a foundation for progress. We played an incredibly nervy team, desperate to hear the full time whistle from the moment they scored, and we did little to worry them all game.

Good performance  but it showed up again how isak going and the replacements not  being up to scratch has affected us.Isak scores the chance wissa misses.re set get business  done early and attack  next season.also no question those players played for the management  today.

Only just watched it and we have lost it on set pieces.

First off just leaving Eze (who is one of the best strikers of the ball in the league) free on the edge of the area after they made it clear that was the tactic is brainless. Stick someone like Murphy or Willock on him that contribute nothing to the middle of the box just to deter them.

Secondly the quality of our delivery today was abysmal - Bruno, Tonali and Elanga all having stinkers especially at the end.

Better performance than expected but let down by the above and Wissa blazing one over.

More than likely would have conceded a late goal anyway if we had equalised.

At least losing 1-0 means we can leave with a little bit of dignity. Hate how gutless this team are.

It's probably been said in this thread but we are crying out for a top class number 10

Not really as Eddie doesn't play with a #10

You can put it another way then, team is crying out for creativity across the pitch. If Bruno doesn't do it, chances being created is a pretty rare occurrence. There's just not a lot of offensive threats for teams to worry about.

It wasn't bad but our final third play is so poor.

Pope - Did pretty well actually, no chance with the goal. One brain fart moment but got away with it (generally speaking). Didn't spend the match sliding about on his knees so that's a big plus from me.

Miley - Solid, unspectacular.

Burn - Did fine, probably about as good as you can expect playing him at left back.

Botman - He's so slow, with every passing game I wonder why we've kept him on. Wouldn't be surprised if he is sold now he has a value again but I fear we've seen the best of him.

Thiaw - Not bad, shouldn't have been left to try and create anything in the last 10 minutes.

Tonali - Great off the ball plus couple of decent shots. No guile whatsoever.

Bruno - Gives us a lot but he was probably only at about 70% today.

Willock - Ran his bollocks off but not much to show for it.

Ramsey - Barely in the game.

Murphy - Couple of reasonable crosses but a hiding to nothing as he was aiming for one or two players against their two beasty centre backs.

Osula - Ran about a lot and a couple of nice moments but performance will only be remembered for that chance in the first few minutes.

Woltemade - That pass was nice. We need to find a way to play him as a 10 in these closing matches. Whether that's with three centre backs (352) or a 4231 (which will not work with Bruno in the 2) I don't know.

Wissa - I mean at least he seemed arsed, hard chance to take when you don't play many minutes but should have done better obviously.

Elanga - Just put it in the box for the big lads man

Barnes - Another week of not knowing what Harvey Barnes does if he doesn't score.

Can't wait for Welbeck to score his 300th goal against us next week, I'd be lying if I wasn't a little concerned we might be relegated still. Spurs would have to win 3 of the last 4 which, whilst unlikely, is the type of thing that happens at this time of year. We will likely be 15th next week and 16th the week after, then we play West Ham, which might be a very difficult day indeed.

We missed two big chances and played ok overall. Howe can't score those chances.

He can’t close down shots at the edge of the box either but I’ve seen posts blaming him for the goal.

We have one of the most creative midfielders in the league.
