I do think time is worth a lot.

Some people don't think it matters.

Massive ideological gap.

Worth a lot to who? Us, yes. But the player and selling club were happy to wait.

At that point we either leave it there and risk a gazumping, or pull out. One option has a chance of getting out man, the other doesn't. Is saving time worth more than getting the player we're after?

If you’re good at what you do and you know demand for your services is high and the level of interest from the employer at the very top has made it clear they’re not messing about and they want you, they’ve just been delayed slightly because they’re bringing in a new MD who knows all about your capability and has agreed he definitely wants you in his team.

In that situation, most people hold out.

But if that isn’t what you’re hearing, you accept the £80k offer.

If he waits and takes his time, then you have to let him go and cut the story short as soon as possible, because it means he doesn't want to come here.

Once he stalls.. we actively pursue other options. We can leave the deal on the table if we want. But we open concrete negotiations with other players and teams.

He didn't even stall significantly by all reports. He reasonably asked for 24-hours.

It's not rocket-science.

@Minhosa premise is all about filtering ultimately, although I think regardless of timeline he goes to the Scouse, with proper processes as minhosa suggested we don't waste 3 weeks here and we've moved on.

We've ended up in the worst of all worlds again, a public pursuit with no player and being roundly mocked

No it doesn’t.

There’s loads of perfectly viable reasons why he might say he’s taking his time. And then he still ends up signing for NUFC.

NUFC just need to try and suss out if he’s buying time to talk to another club who have more prestige and can pay higher wages. And if that’s what’s happening, then expect to be gazumped and move on.

I don’t think it’s the worst of all worlds, that would be this happening late in the window rather than early.

It's bloody simple.

Turns out it’s true. He’s completely up to his eyeballs at the World Cup. We walk away from a player we want because we don’t believe his story to be true.

How you feeling about that scenario.

Life isn’t as black and white as you’d like it to be.

Use your noggin.

This isn’t a post trying to defend or criticise the club here but imagine all the work and negotiations that’s gone on to get that deal on the cusp of being done then to get shafted at the last minute… again. [emoji38]

This is the world we live in unfortunately. We are boxed in by the rules. If the cartel clubs think we might be onto a good player, they will swoop in just because they can.

Don't like Downie's last point - "Club trying to get to the bottom of what happened". Don't need an internal investigation to determine that Liverpool have more pull or that our advanced interest was leaked to Fab to summon Liverpool, for fuck's sake. That should be blindingly obvious given the events of last summer. Just accept it, move on, and slap in a bid for Fernandez-Pardo so that we can enjoy life for a few days again before Chelsea sign him.

Who said it was internal? Maybe they are trying to contact the agent and he’s not returning our calls currently.

You're inventing a narrative.

We don't have to walk away but we will know where he stands. He's waiting for a better offer and we move accordingly.

I had no issue with the Reims-Etikite transfer. We knew early doors the lad was waiting for PSG and we would've started working earnestly on other targets. No issues with that approach - we did everything right but the player knew Campos was set to join PSG and wanted to bring him there. We would've known that too when he started stalling.

In this case, the lad didn't stall.

Ah wonderful, another summer of this. I'm out.

Same. Waste of time supporting a club thats so hamstrung. We have to sell our vmbest players to compete and then get gazumped everytime we're in for a decent player. We end up with 4th and 5th choice and then Eddie Howe takes the flack. Fuck it. Im taking up knitting

It does feel hopeless tbh. Feels exactly like last season where we have to wait until every cartel club has finished swooping in for our main targets, then picking up the leftovers.

We even do all their contract negotiations for them.

How do you know we haven't been exploring other options?

So we're time and money rich then. Which one is playing on the right wing?

That's why we pay the sports director to do his job. We saw in the case of Wissa that we have room for maneuver in terms of weekly salaries (more than 140k per week + bonus). If we keep spending that much, it will always end up the same. We saw this last summer, I thought we learned from it. If he is such a great talent, then we should have moved faster and more seriously. This is just stalling and smearing. If we make an attractive offer and he asks for a deferral, then there is nothing to talk about, we have to leave it there.

Hall can also play on the wing, very well.

Says I’m inventing a narrative then proceeds to immediately invent a narrative.

Apart from the player saying yes to LFC and no to NUFC you don’t know what was said by anyone who was involved in this transfer to anyone who was involved in this transfer.

Naturally, I’ll offer my apologies in advance if you were on the inside and have a job that gets you involved with transfer negotiations at LFC, NUFC or as a football agent involved in this deal.

You know who comes out of this the worst? Lee Ryder. He was getting hero status on here, dragging himself out of the joke journalist that asks Eddie a question that he doesn't understand to the transfer news breaking guru of fantastic news. Where does he go from here?

Back in the dirt with the other pigs. Mayhaps we asked too much of him, seeing some light in the darkness, mistaking it for the dawn when it was nothing more than a burning ember. I will remember him but I shall no longer honour him
