And whatever they decide to do they need to get a move on before the rules are changed and the cost of the refurb counts towards FFP/PSR/new pigshit rules

Quite disappointed it’s not a new stadium, however hopefully it’s something innovative and not just a copy of the Leazes at the Gallowgate. Personally think the two bigger stands are terrible.

i'm more worried about the reduced capacity for a couple of years whilst its rebuilt.

They didn't reduce capacity building the Milburn/Leazes extension, so fingers crossed

Overly romantic and maybe being different for differents sake but I'd still like a Tyne Bridge arc in a Gallowgate extension.  Squeezes an extra thou in and would look purdy.

I'm pretty much expecting everything short of a new stadium. Once the works done, I imagine it will look radically different, new roof, new seats, new layout, new corporate, new media area, new dugouts and changing rooms.

SJP needs to be fit for purpose but by keeping the ground in the same location, you keep it's soul alive.

I think the compromise might be a major stadium sponsorship, perhaps not the name itself but pretty much everything else. Undoubtedly from the middle east. 20m per year for the next 20 years wouldn't half pay for some of the expansion costs.

Imagine something like SELA in neon lights shining across the city, which don't forget you can see as far as the A1. I think I can just about take this compromise for a class stadium.

Does it involve doing something to the New Stand? It'll be a travesty if they leave that as it is.

Any confirmation that there will be music played after we score goals and opportunity to take part in quizzes?

Only if they are fish based obviously.

This, the quotes from the article seem to imply more of a rebuild than anything else.

In all fairness to Ando this is what he said.

For those who want an east stand fix, it's hardly out of the question. A new roof would make a hell of a difference to both the east stand and the gallowgate. Making them all the same would be more aesthetically pleasing for starters.

If its the actually outside of the east stand, we'll I've actually got a soft spot for that brutalist style. It transports me to a SJP which I wasnt old enough to see.

Some like to fire shots at Ando but he was a genuine ITK of this forum (possibly the first) and since they are rare as hens teeth, if he is now making stuff up, he gets a pass from me.

All I care about is the atmosphere - get a fucking roof over everything; 10,000 standing in the Gallowgate, 10,000 standing in the leazes then do whatever else needs doing for FFP and the day trippers/bet365ers/hot dog munchers and the elbow pad brigade.

Not sure why but I get the feeling the name dropping about possible failure to agree with the council etc may be the plan from the start in order to build a new stadium.

Maybe just trying to gently ease it through with fans who don't want it?

It's my take from today's news.
