I’m sorry like, but theirs a lot of emotion into football compared to other sports. On top of this, it’s not like the NFL where teams by a rule of thumb are hundreds if not thousands of miles away from each other, so you don’t get that anticipation charge built up.

I mean, let’s be honest, no one should be getting abused or attacked for the team they support, but the segregation of fans does add to the atmosphere.

Additionally, how am I supposed to start getting a chant going if a group of Irish tourists have bought all the tickets around me to cheer on Liverpool who we are playing?

I have to jump in here. Some NFL teams on the East Coast are as close together as PL teams. Giants, Jets, Ravens, Eagles & Commanders are all within 2-3 hours of each other. I was at Eagles v Commanders a few weeks back and there was no segregation. To say it was "interesting" is an understatement.

what is a club in any case? its not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. it’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. it's the agnostic tourists, the autograph hunters, the youtubers, the half and half scarf wearers, and “giz your shirt” sign makers.

LOL. When I go I don't bother with any of that. Getting to see a game is more than enough....

I went to Broncos-Commanders in 2023 and was surprised at how much abuse the Commanders fans were dishing out to the home fans around me, despite there being no segregation. A few times I thought it was going to get nasty.

Yup same here. No segregation and a ton of alcohol. What could go wrong!!

The Spurs stadium is practically on the same footprint as WHL, it’s a real difficult conundrum is it the design that makes it soulless, or the fact it’s to big for them and  is now full of fair weather fans.

If we move to Leazes Park it’s practically the same situation as them really, I would say with the big single tier it couldn’t be anymore conducive to creating a good atmosphere, so if that doesn’t work not sure what will.

The new Everton stadium will be interesting as seems very compact with steep stands and probably a lot less corporate than Spurs.

I understand the concerns about creating a soulless experience, on the flip side though I find the current SJP depressing as fuck, the Milburn and Leazes are awfully designed and have no atmosphere whatsoever, and the East Stand needs condemned

Ultimately I think a rebuilt SJP will have no resemblance to the current stadium and would be just as soulless as any new stadium a couple of hundred yards up the road.

Is it just me or does the whole “soulless bowl” comments regarding a new stadium give you similar “sovereignty” vibes from those that argued for Brexit [emoji38]

Look how deciding to go backwards is turning out for the country…

I think people should understand the atmosphere is created by those in the ground and not the ground itself. Sure you can design for better acoustics but you can't amplify silence.

And imagine how great an atmosphere our fans could create in a stadium not built like a sieve.

Build it and they will come around. Or just announce plans, show images of what it could look like, present it in form of digestible media. Just don’t fumble the announcement.

To be honest, despite my disagreements I think a lot of the hesitancy related more to the potential of moving elsewhere somewhere less central which is understandable.

Obviously with the amount of unknowns and trade offers which we will inevitably have a lot of people would rather embrace what they know.

Totally agree. It's down to the people who are in it that make the main difference. People moaning about Spurs stadium mustn't have visited White Hart Lane many times because on the half dozen or so occasions I visited it, the only real atmosphere there was generated by us lot.

Arsenal and The Emirates the same. Highbury wasn't nicknamed the "Highbury Library" for nothing.

What everyone seems to be missing is that the main reason atmospheres are rubbish is due to the people within it. It seems that the existing season ticket holders want to stay where they are, and there is a massive family section. It is challenging to get like minded noisy, invested and radgie fans co-located. If nothing else a new stadium will force moves, and I’d expect the club to set up specific sections whether formally or informally.

If we stay at SJP it will never improve, if we move, there is a chance of a small upturn in atmosphere, but football has changed and it will never be the bear pit it was in years gone by.
