GET TO THOSE PHONES!

“Hello Alan, it’s Bobbydazzla here, I’m a bit nervous about being on the radio, but I just wanted to call in and say to all your listeners, I had a lush time at Metroland with Michelle from Walford. It was only our first date but I think it might be true love.

Michelle, if you’re listening, you made my life complete on Metroland rollercoaster. I love you. Will you marry me?”

Fucking loved Nightowls.

There were times when it was shit and times when it was great.

Used to be a bloke called Angus who would ring up with a really crap joke every week.

Nightowls was class. Used to be some right heedthebaals ring, and Robson was quite inappropriate at times compared to what you would get away with now.

Used to love that quiz he’d do.

When I was about 4 or 5 I rang Metro to tell a joke live on the airwaves. Paddy MacDee was the DJ.

It was recorded on a tape for posterity so I’ve heard it more than a few times.

Paddy asked me where I was from but I couldn’t remember, so you can hear me shouting for my mother to ask where we live. Cue much chortling from Paddy.

Got sent a Metro FM goody bag with window stickers and various other promo items.

Best days of my life

I met him when he came for Sunday Lunch at the George in Chollerford. I know he had a rep for being a bit up himself at times but he was on great form that day, tipped pretty well.

Also had Frank Clark in one evening for a private function, kept the bar open until 5 am for him and his party, he was decent on the old guitar.

Then good ol' Sid Waddell and Jerome Flynn (on separate occasions), refused to be called sir and we're great company.

Just say it's 65000 but then build a 75000, there's 10000 tax free tickets a week right there, no-one is going to count them, clubs used to falsify attendance loads back in the day.

East Stand, oddly given its far from an a architectural masterpiece even amongst those who admire brutalism features on the C20 at Risk List “10 outstanding twentieth and twenty-first century buildings across the UK threatened with demolition, dereliction, or neglect”.

Perhaps they can maintain the carbuncle when the rest of the stadium is torn down.

There's certainly a couple of fans in that stand with listed historical status.

Lovely comment, are you a "listed ancient monument" yourself?

So much grotty ageism on this forum at times.

It does have some appreciation among those who admire brutalism:

Coincidentally, I've just bought this book called Brutal North for a mate who likes a bit of the old brutalism, I was flicking through it and found this:
