Don’t think it looks the best internally, would’ve been class one big, steep stand. However, I don’t think it’s horrendous. I would much rather see us redevelop than move to a new build, and I don’t think Villa will regret not doing that. 
 

Everton fans’ opinions in a season or two time will be interesting.

You have to remember that they are wanting to be a giant of a club.

25 years ago SJP with a new capacity of 52k became the 2nd biggest club stadium in the country, well 2nd biggest football stadium considering Wembley was being demolished. Next season it will become the 12th biggest club stadium, so basically a lower half average Premier League stadium.

A 50k capacity doesn’t get Villa to where they want to be. On top of this they are taking out some corporate seats which is a PSR requirement these days.

 

Currently Aston Villa do well on concerts and other events, but Birmingham City are about to build a purpose built 60k seater stadium which will be aiming to take away the other events from Villa Park.

 

These plans are also a much diluted version of plans they lodged a few years ago, which would have be a starting point for a full redevelopment of Villa Park.

 

In short, it would be akin to us extending the Gallowgate, whilst Sunderland built a new stadium fit for the modern era.

Last visit was in the champo, we spent an hour trying to get in a pub round there, no chance. Said fuck it, we'll go in early, got in and the bar was pop only. There was Toon fans trying to get out 😂

From a competitive standpoint I love that their expansion plans are still less capacity than SJP.

As we are a football club I want our home to be our home, and not geared towards concerts or the NFL, which everyone on Twitter seems to have an obsession with.

 

Birmingham won’t build a huge stadium and if they do, it’ll be varnigh empty. Villa will be playing games in their traditional home at the same time.

Villa, Brum, Wolves all awful away fan experience. West Brom is rather decent to be fair,  friendliest fans and welcoming boozers in that area. Generalisation viewpoint, granted, but I don't find it a welcoming region

Villa Park is probably top of the list of grounds I want to go to in England that I’ve not visited. 4 slightly mismatched stands with no real corners to speak of, a football stadium doesn’t get better. 

Albeit probably not as an away fan for all round match experience even though I quite like Brum as a city.

Birmingham is fine as a city, the ground even currently is fine also. However, you then have the cunts which are the Villa fan base to contend with.
 

For some unknown reason (no history behind it), they seem to have this direct rivalry aimed towards us (if you look on their main forum, our thread is regularly updated and near the top of the Other Football section), and take massive satisfaction when things are not going well on our side. They are just outside of Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United for clubs with the biggest cunts as supporters, and probably level with Everton (another club with a strange obsession with us).

Just thinking back to when they got relegated the same season as us, whilst we sold out most weeks they instantly mothballed the entire top tier of one of their stands cos they knew demand would drop off a cliff, which it did. 

 

Also they haven't been always been filling 42k capacity Villa Park this season. They only got 37k at home to Brentford.

Not to 20 odd thousand they didn't. Even our reduced gates would have filled Villa Park every week. They've always had a very fickle fanbase. Extending beyond 50k for them would be very risky.

Villa Park is probably the ground I've been to most. Think I'm most impressed by how it still looks like Villa Park and different despite upgrading two and half of the stands since my first visit (93) more than anything else because aside from debating whether the old Holte End was bigger than the Kop at the time it didn't stand out then (had Anfield, Old Trafford and Ibrox fresh in the mind however)
