They’re going to give it a lick of black paint like Ashley did.

Famous gates, don’t forget them.

So ambitious they had to cull “The Line” project.

That was 100% MBS having to be reined in from his usual lunacy from what I understand.

This hasn’t gotten anywhere near the architects yet. The report that they have had for at least a month at this stage only outlines options v RoI and external considerations (planning, metro etc). It won’t have even gotten to an estimate because that’s not what they do. Only what’s possible.

Once they have (a decision) and then all requirememts gathered into a document, they’ll be in discussions with civil planners, surveyors and architects before they eventually go with one.

Then it will need to be designed, then approved.. probably with changes, updated designs/drawings etc.

We’re a way off anything being announced that side of things. Probably 1-2 years.

It’s just always a very long process when working with an existing structure and planning considerations.

A whole new site/stadium would be a much easier venture but they seem to be stuck on the idea of staying.

any idea if it's being made public?

documenting this whole thing for a YouTube/NUFCTV series would be very insightful, please

How would you turn the trains back around?

you do realise the trains don't turn around under st james in a circle right?
The rear of the train is exactly the same as the front?

Don't think I ever saw a train "turning around"

It's called turning round. I know the tunnel continues west beyond the station so not sure if there's a junction up there to swap platforms. Only ever used it once so can't really remember.

New stadium would be an easier design and build. Whether it was easier to get it through the planning process would depend entirely where it was. Arena site would sail through, mostly Leazes Park not, mostly Castle Leazes somewhere in the middle. Planning process can also get highly politicised.

Whether we see any designs or not early on will depend on whether they keep it confidential or go public early on.

It's just a straight line of track that ends before the little Tesco.

I think they sometimes store trains there.

anyway the whole station is no longer needed since the metro will never travel into the west end.

Yep, just like last time they’ll be taking clipboards to the red and white shites to get numbers against it.

Yes, I’m aware of that.  Do you understand that while the train can reverse back, that could cause a problem for trains coming in the opposite direction?

Oh am fairly sure Darren Eales will make some sort of statement on it in due course, am just trying to give a bit of reality to the process as there’s a whole bunch of us eager for some news. Nothing concrete will come quick.. if they do stay at SJP as what’s currently expected there’s a whole heap of work to get through before we ever see a render of the plans.

My hope would be that they opt for the Arena site before anything else goes in there. It couldn’t be much more than a 15/20 min walk from SJP and much closer to Central Station.

It would look amazing beside the river.

Nothing stopping us from keeping the lease on the land at SJP and building a state of the art conference centre with hotels, a casino, event venue etc. Revenue which could go back into the club.

Watching the Real Madrid game the other night really makes me want a new stadium, however I would prefer it in Leazers Park with St James turned into some sort of Wembly way leading up to it with bars, cafes and shops either side

As I've understood it, the light to Leazes Terrace is as much the issue as the space with regard to the East Stand, so that would maybe be as much a non starter as any other. Would also have to be taken into consideration with plans for the Gallowgate I guess

I wonder if they've considered moving the sun brick by brick to another location

The top tier can be the sleep 7 rest area, where the oldies can get a blanket and a kip.

Re the light issue. Build a new massive fuck off stand with a mirror on it to reflect light down on to another mirror on the back of the new stand thus reflecting light on to Leazes Terrace. A bit like Rjukan in Norway and Viganella in Italy.

I dont even know if I'm being serious.

I might try pushing the idea in the pub tomorrow that they are looking at the idea and see if it gets any bites.
