I don’t know one person that regularly goes to watch non-league, that wouldn’t go if Newcastle were on TV.*

*I will qualify that by saying I don’t know many that regularly watch non-league full stop, so I’m probably not in a good position to judge.

It definitely makes a massive difference to crowds at Northern League level. Less so the further you go up the pyramid.

Its only a rumour but I have heard the the Premier league are thinking of moving all the 3pm games on a Saturday to 2pm on the Sunday so all games will be televised.  Obviously might be a while in coming but mean zero games would be effected by the blackout and it would be a . Just what ive heard before anyone shoots the messenger

At a Premier League Shareholders' meeting today, clubs unanimously agreed that the Premier League will establish a new in-house media operations business. Launching for the start of Season 2026/27, the Premier League will bring all international media content production and distribution in-house

Yes. Let’s turn into the NFL, maybe throw in some tailgate parties and Cheesehead hats to really capture the vibe. The sooner we weed out the US owners and stop this cultural vandalism the better.

If they did do direct to consumer distribution, then they would likely end up also changing the distribution model.

On the international distribution schemes, the top 6 already receive a greater proportion of revenue compared with the rest of the league.

I’d say they would do something like you can subscribe via your own club, and if you do that, then your club gets a greater percentage of the fee on top of what is equally paid out, however if you subscribe via the Premier League, then they will distribute more of that fee to the top 6 clubs, under the assumption that they are likely being you in as a fan, instead of the other clubs.

And lose all the Far East and Australian viewers? No chance. Best thing they could do is split the matches either side of the 3pm blackout period. Keeps Asia and North America happy.

I meant (all) the ones that usually left at 3pm Saturday [emoji38]

All the clubs around here, Heaton Stan, Benfield, North Shields, Whitley Bay all see a big dip in attendance when NUFC are playing at the same time. Blue Star try to play on a Friday night if NUFC are playing on the Saturday.

Aye North Shield really benefitted from lads ditching NUFC in the Ashley years.

In which case (assuming that’s replicated in other parts of the country) they do have a bit of a dilemma in how to align that with getting rid of the ridiculous situation where you can watch every game of your team if they’re in a lower league but not the PL.

Off the top of my head, I maybe wouldn’t be averse to PL ‘Saturday 3pm’ games being moved to Saturday at 5:30 / 6pm, but having them all moved to whatever time on a Sunday isn’t it.

When you spend 3hrs helping with the flags you really notice how much the stands are showing their age on all four sides. Some of the concourses etc not the best either. The ground is really showing its age if you ever get a few mins to wander round the whole place.

I think as a simple match going experience I think it will be great. The views and the acoustics with that stand and roof design look like they could create a bit of a bear pit.

I've done that before. Season before last I went to watch North Shields v Whitley Bay at dinner time and then went to SJP for a night time KO v Man Utd. Great day!

Why can't they just televise them at 3pm Sat? The EFL do. Who sets the block.

Totally pointless nowadays, everyone who wants to watch a 3pm match on TV, does.

Because the theory is that no-one will then go to watch any lower league football because they’ll all be sat at home watching PL games on TV.

If there was an option to do two in one day I think I would be less likely to go. But on occasion I probably would.

Why should some Premier League fans suffer because of this though? I couldn't give a shit if 50 less people will go to Leyton Orient v Southend because Spurs v Everton is on the Tele at 3pm. There's a lot of money to be made by televising the 3pm's that could mitigate / offset this fantasy scenario.

That’s a fair point.

It’s difficult to really say what the actual impact would be on attendances lower down until you actually did it I suppose.

In that Orient v Southend example, it’s probably high enough up the pyramid that losing between 50-200 off the gate isn’t going to cause a massive issue. Go 4/5 levels down and maybe it does.
