Ours will be a different animal though. Basically in the same place, much bigger and money won't be a barrier so it'll be completely state of the art. There's a strong chance ours will be the best in European football, even world football. For a period of time anyway.

Yeah I get that.

In my opinion all Everton have done is catch up with SJP 25 years after it became what it is in its current guise.

I honestly think it could have been, and should have been a bit more.

In saying this, I’m not quite sure them lot down the road would swap either, especially when in theory they could have a bigger capacity.

Yeah true, it definitely looks like something that could have been built years ago rather than a mid-20s build but I still think it'll be a good job for them. As long as the corporate and VIP stuff are good they'll get plenty of corporate revenue from it, and they'll get concerts. With Anfield though they'll not have the monopoly over concerts and maybe they should have factored that into it. Goodison, while iconic in English football, was a dive though and Everton fans will be rightly over the moon with the new place. FWIW I think the atmosphere will be good there.

Just me that thinks Everton’s new ground looks bland as fuck?

Will judge when fully finished and I visit it next season. If the pitch views are brilliant and acoustics excellent then not much else needed really. Everton fans on the whole seem to love it already.

I met the top guy from Haas UK last year and he was such an inspirational guy, obviously very rich and he works in Uni's in his spare time with the designer graduates.

His train of thought is to, think big, think like money or infrastructure or Physics is no object, what would you build............and work back from there

Re the capacity at Everton’s stadium. Can it easily be extended? 53k isn’t really a massive increase considering their fanbase.

Looking at the locality I’d say no and officially no also I believe.

However can go to 62000 if safe standing legislation changes over the coming years apparently.

Fair enough, I was unsure due to the proximity to the river.

Quite the jump that mind.

So basically act like the Mrs during IKEA trips.

I wonder if we’d go down similar route?

70K but safety access in place to increase safe standing if allowed to 80K+

Would be a smart move if so.

Do they have the fanbase to sell 62k every game?

Obviously, they might well do if they started challenging towards the top end of the league, but if they remained similar to what they are now?

I suppose they probably do. Most established PL teams do nowadays. West Ham don’t have much bother filling their stadium (although often not for the full 90…) but that is London.

Get asked the same question about us and 75/80/85k/100k! 🤷🏼‍♂️

Who knows when we are talking about the next 100 years of a sport.

Would certainly fancy their chances for Oasis/Coldplay/Swift etc. Boxing very popular in the NW also.

The big question I’d have to ask would you trade SJP for Everton’s new stadium?

Honestly I wouldn’t.

The capacity is only marginally better, and I don’t think it offers anything or can do anything that SJP can’t.

It looks good from the outside, but when you get closer and inside, it’s bland and a bit bare.

Problem with evertons is capacity and location. Think it'll be a bit of a mare getting in and out since it's bang on the river.

Give me that ground in our location with 75k and I'd be delighted.

Wasn’t sure where to post this, but does anyone on here go to Stack before games? If so, how early would a group need to go on Sunday to get in without a giant queue? Never bothered before but got visitors coming for game so was looking at options. Any info appreciated.

There is an argument that Everton has a bigger fanbase than us

Don’t think I would agree with that argument, but not one I’d particularly want to get into either.

If they’re selling out this stadium every single week whilst continuing to be mediocre at best, then good luck to them. Tbf, I’d expect all established, historically big PL teams to be doing that (see West Ham).

Everton aren't West Ham tbf - they're significantly bigger than them.  Everton's historical average gate ranks them as 7th (we're 5th if anyone is curious) - and that's with Goodison limiting their capacity for decades now.

This is maybe true worldwide, but nowhere near true in terms of local support wanting to attend games: https://www.statista.com/statistics/1453507/local-fans-premier-league-clubs/#statisticContainer

That only tells you the proportion of their support which is local, not how big the local support is.

Maybe historically, but nowadays it’s so easy for large London clubs to fill the ground. West Ham went from 35k to 62k no bother.

Anyway, as I say I don’t really want to get into it too much, as it’s all a bit ‘my dad’s bigger than your dad’.

Ourselves, Everton, West Ham all have very large fanbases, if obviously a step down from the global attraction of Man Utd and Liverpool.
