James
That is absolutely insulting. Blatter says that most of the money is going to our insurers and the FA.

James
TBH Fifa dont even have to give us that so FS should take it. The FA will give us money on top of that FIFA are just greedy fuckers. They should be made accountable, after all, the make so much money from forcing clubs to give up their best assets for the World Cup, so why shouldn't they pay? They've literally gone and handed the FA a big pay cheque, and told us that if we want it, we'll have to sue them.
James
Actually, totally misread that, none ofthe money is going to the FA, all to us, but Blatter says we have to get the rest from the FA and our insurers. We had asked for the entire unspent £7m compensation kitty set aside by FIFA, but it would seem that the greedy fuckers have decided to pocket it. Crumpy Gunt
Who let Owen go on international duty on the back of 38 minutes on the pitch in 5 months? FIFA and the FA could quite rightly tell us to piss off.

The rules state that international clubs can call up any player against the player's or club's wishes, and failure to comply leads to domestic suspensions, fines, or even deducted points. Yes except we more than offered Owen up on a plate for international duty. Infact it could be said we rested him further so he would be fitter for the world cup. Guest Jai
Bottom line is that its the FA's responsibility and they should pay the majority of compensation. Fatty should grap the FIFA money with both hands (as im sure he will).
Ally
Can't believe we had the cheek to demand £6m! Injuries are just part and parcel of the game, get over it. I'm not buying any of these analogies about lending someone your lawnmower and having it returned broken.

He wasnt rested so he'd be fitter, He came back against Brummies his foot was sore after the game and wasnt able to play the last game.

I'm not buying any of these analogies about lending someone your lawnmower and having it returned broken. i think it is fair enough to ask for the players wages to be compensated if he is injured on international duty, though thinking about the consequences of this (potentially bankrupting international football or at least meaning any poor nation would be unable to field a team due to insurance problems) i'd rather a precedent wasn't set. asking for compensation for Martins is ridiculous though. NUFC06
So FIFA is giving us 1m What about FA? Is there any chance that they will give us money too?
James
Sven was so worried about a reccurence in injury he banned Owen from playing in Shearer's testimonial for fuck sake. England were totally negligent, and were supported by the rules set out by FIFA. We deserve several million.
Rich
Definitely won't turn my nose up at £1m, as while it hardly pays for a "replacement" for Owen (load of nonsense if we ever really thought we'd get £6m+), but if you break it down and add it to the £50k p/w that the FA have providing it goes close to meaning that Owen hasn't cost us anything since he actually got injured, which is very good news as it means we've had a total of around £2.5m from FIFA/The FA since his injury. That's £2.5m we could have paid to a lad who was not fit to play. Plus, we'll have had cash from our own insurers on top of that. Definitely won't complain at getting almost 15% of the entire FIFA budget for injures at the World Cup, although I think Blatter saying we don't really deserve it because we are in a "rich league" is fucking bollocks. It would be interesting to know how many millions Owen's absence has cost us in prize money since he was injured, it's got nothing to do with the fact that the Premiership has a lot of cash. It's all relative to the losses/gains. Blatter is an utter cunt.
Rich
So FIFA is giving us 1m What about FA? Is there any chance that they will give us money too? The FA have already been paying around half of Owen's wages (50k-ish) since he got hurt, it equates to a fair wedge since June (£2m-ish).
Nobby
from nufc.com Owen claim latest From the Sporting Life, Wednesday: FIFA say they have made a "final offer" to Newcastle of £1million in compensation for Michael Owen's injury at the World Cup - six times less than the club are claiming from the game's world governing body. Owen ruptured his cruciate knee ligament 55 seconds after coming onto the pitch in Germany last year and Newcastle are already receiving compensation from the FA of £50,000 a week towards his salary costs. The club had submitted a separate claim to FIFA for £6.2million but the world governing body's president Sepp Blatter said they had made a final offer of 2.2million Swiss francs (£1million). Blatter said the overall compensation should be shared between FIFA, the FA and the club's own insurers. He told a media briefing in London: "Newcastle have come saying they have to replace him with another player, that this is not fair. "We have made a last offer there, and if someone has responsibility then it's the FA towards the player. "The transfer regulations say players put at the disposal of the national team should be insured by their club. The competition regulations of the World Cup say the national associations must make sure the players are correctly insured. "We have also set up a special fund for injuries to players for all 32 participants of the competition with a total of 15 million Swiss francs (£7million) available for everybody. "If you look who is asking for money [from the fund] then something is wrong because it is from the richest league in the world." The FA's insurance policy covers a player's wages, capped to a maximum £50,000 a week, for 52 weeks. Newcastle have also lodged a claim for further compensation from the FA as well as FIFA to cover the cost of signing £10million striker Obafemi Martins as a replacement for Owen, who cost £17million from Real Madrid. An FA spokesman said: "The position remains unchanged. We have been in constructive discussions with Newcastle since the World Cup. "We are sympathetic towards their position with reference to the injury and those discussions are ongoing."

BottledDog
Not that it makes that much of a difference but considering that without these handouts Owen would have cost us nearly two and a half meeeeellion pounds per goal scored, we should be thankful for any small mercy. Kasper
Im not complaining that we're getting some money for Owen but these claims are really a load of shit. Fine..if FIFA wants to give some money from their own fund to clubs of injured players then ok. But if the football association of the country the player had represented when getting injured were required to always pay for example the wages, that would kill international football in the end. Let's say Hyypiä gets injured for a year during the summer internationals and Liverpool demand Finnish football association to pay his wages for the next season. Their budget couldnt handle anything like that... Injuries are part of all sports. Private insurances are all good but it shouldnt have anything to do with the football associations
