The melt down when they finally lose their place at the top of the English food chain will be incredible viewing.

Sadly, can't ever really see that happening.

I'm sure people used to say that about Liverpool in the 80s though. You can't really stay at the top forever especially as more and more money keeps getting pumped into the British game.

I guess so, and I hope so. But they've seen off Arsenal, they've seen off Chelsea, and now look to see off Man City too. I guess when Ferguson retires the real test begins?

I reckon so. They have one of the most iconic managers of all time right now but who do you follow that with? It's going to be hard for them to keep up what Ferguson has done no matter who succeeds him.

The melt down when they finally lose their place at the top of the English food chain (most likely when Fergie leaves) will be incredible viewing.

It's not gonna happen for decades. They've far too much going for them.

they did when Busby stepped down too but still went steadily into melt down, very easy to see a repeat happening when Fergie leaves especially if as he's talking about he goes on the board, his lingering presence around old trafford won't help his successor much at all

Was easier to do that in 60's and 70's do well and then slide down the league.

Ipswich.

Blackburn.

Leeds.

Newcastle.

Come to mind in recent years.

Would take a series of horrendous managerial appointments for them to even drop out of the top 3 IMO. The infrastructure, income and reputation to players are all there, they're on another planet to most other clubs in that respect. Don't they bring in more than 4 times what we do in a year?
