Bryan Robson had admitted defeat in a bid to keep Phil Jagielka at Sheffield United

Jagielka, 24, wants to boost his England chances

Blades want £6m for Jagielka

Everton, Wigan, Newcastle and Bolton are set to battle it out for his signature

------------

was mentioned on here last week, seems decent but 6m? bit steep!

I like Jagielka, think he is a very good player but £6m is too much! The £4m quoted before seemed a little more reasonable.

Suppose if we get £7m+ for Parker and bring in Jagielka its not too bad a move.

What is his official position? If we signed him where would he play?

He is a strange one really, started out at centre back I believe but has played more in central midfield recently but has filled in at centre back and right back too :D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Jagielka

Philip "Phil" Jagielka (born August 17, 1982 in Manchester) is an extremely versatile football player who can operate as a midfielder, defender, and even in emergencies has acted as goalkeeper (indeed, to such distinction that manager Neil Warnock rarely took substitute goalkeepers to Championship and even Premiership games).

He has distinguished himself throughout his time with the Blades, notably in the 2002/03 season, where he established himself fully. He played in all of the league matches in both 2004-05 and 2005-06. As at 14th April 2007, he has made 128 consecutive league appearances, last missing a league game in April 2004 and is the only player to have played every minute of the 2006-07 Premier season except Joseph Yobo.

On December 30, 2006 in a home match against Arsenal his goalkeeping skills were put to use as he came in to goal for the final half-hour with his team 1-0 up due to a thigh injury to starting 'keeper Paddy Kenny. He kept through the last thirty-four minutes and made a late save from Robin Van Persie to preserve the 1-0 victory.

He is a former member of the England Under-21 team and scored in a 2-0 victory over Slovakia at the Stadium of Light.

On the 10 May 2007 Jagielka was named in the England squad for the first time for the up and coming B international against Albania. Starting on the bench, he replaced Phil Neville at right back at the beginning of the second half.

He was named the Sheffield United Supporters Club Player of the Year for the third successive year in April 2007 and won the Capital One Player of the Year in May 2006.

He has also been named the inaugural Championship Player of the Year for the season 2005-06 and in the April 2006 issue of Four Four Two magazine, he was named as the best player playing in the Football League. He was also named in the 2006 PFA Championship Team of the Year

5 days younger than me :)

He must be quite a handy goalkeeper if Warnock had as much faith in him as that, something not to be overlooked as a potential plus point to him signing.

under rated player. Worth £4/£5M in todays financial climate

Strong, committed and versatile. At 24/25 also provides a good few years of utility....who have we got that can provide that kind of utility (other than Nobby and Butt - who are both the wrong side of 30)?

Decent player, but not one that has aspirations of finishing near or in the waffa cup spots. To be honest most of the names i see people talking about stink of midtable mediocrity - Barton/Jagielka/Reo-Coker/Diop etc. It's all very depressing. Why aren't people wanting players like Manuel Fernandes, genuine class?!

personally id like the blades` striker here instead of ameobi.  He one of the best headers of the ball ive seen since shearer.

HEs tall and strong and fairly quick, work well with owen imo.  Maybe not value for money though, as being english he will have silly price tag.

You know the stiker he thats so impressive he cant remember?

really though rob hulse has done well. but personally as much as Ameobi is berated,  Id probably still prefer him over alot of the trendy tat being floated around at them moment.

He does good enough as a back up striker for me.
