how much was parker making a week? 70k isn't the kind of money i'd expect to pay a player who isn't a shoo-in for his national team...

Probably not a great deal more than what Parker was on, and he's a better player so not too fussed about the wages. Surprised they are that high though.

A good £15k a week more, and Parker was well overpaid. (Allegedly)

I think its a scandalous wage, however that blow is softened with the fact he didn't even bother speaking to WHU, good lad.

He's back already!

What was the jist of what David Craig just said?

*Done a u-turn on the motorway to come back and sign the deal reported to be somewhere in the region of £70,000 per week.

"Somewhere in the region" so anywhere between £1 and £70,000 then. It's all guesswork from the media when it comes to wages.

http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=470454&CPID=8&clid=4&lid=2&title=Barton+agrees+Magpies+move

Skysports.com understands that Joey Barton has agreed a deal to join Newcastle and will sign a five-year contract at St James' Park.

Despite rival interest from West Ham, the Manchester City midfielder travelled to the North East on Tuesday to meet Magpies boss Sam Allardyce and subsequently underwent a medical.

Skysports.com can now reveal he passed the routine medical and has agreed terms with The Magpies.

The transfer now appears hours from completion with the player's agent Willie McKay confident it will go through without any hitches.

"The move is imminent," McKay told skysports.com.

"He has agreed terms and passed his medical. It's a five-year deal."

Its the way we're gonna have to go with West Ham and Villa now looking like they are ready to spend big. If we don't match the wages then we are gonna fall further behind. At least it looks like we're gonna have a new owner with a shitload of money. I agree though, its crazy money.
