Guest firetotheworks
Althought he was a great player, we didn't need him when he was signed. We should have used that money to improve the defense. We needed another forward to help ferdinand. I agree, if had have strengthened the defence instead then I dont think we'd have struggled to score, but we wouldnt have scored as many and possibly had the same outcome but with less attacking football. NG32
We bought Batty, DM. The players for defense were fine and just needed to adjust our tactics, we needed another striker to help Sir Les as his scoring slowed. Also it was our first crack at the title, nerves had crept in a little.
Syrette
For what it's worth Bellamy >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Asprilla Still thought Asprilla was good though. Not in terms of end product, but his touch and bringing others into the game were first-class. If you take the good bits of Dyer & Ameobi and throw them into one player, you get Asprilla at his best. No world-beater (in his time here anyway), but still decent, and by no means a failure. Agreed, word for word. I would have liked for him to have stayed longer but it wasn't to be. Crazy fucking talk, Bellamy over a player like Asprilla, never. he he, "If you take the good bits of Dyer & Ameobi and throw them into one player, you get Asprilla at his best" Jesus wept. I think some people forget how bad Bellamys finishing is/was.

I think some people forget how bad Bellamys finishing is/was. I was agreeing more with the paragraph below. But yeah, it would be close, but if I had to have one I'd probably take Bellamy from that period (his time at the club was twice as long as Tino's, with that said) over Asprilla. nobby_solano
i thought tino was fantastic, it was unfair he got the blame for us losing the 12pt league, man united were phenomenal from xmas onward that season, and with cantona coming back from his suspension at the same sorta time. Baggio
Newcastle legend Beardsley said: "Tino was one of the best players I have ever played with. "He is one of the top three actually. He was brilliant for Newcastle during his time here."
NG32
The way Tino raped the Boro full back (flemming i think) then to put in a perfect ball for steve watson to head in. Brilliant. Happy days eh.
johnnypd
wasn't that his debut? had just flown in a couple of hours earlier, came off the bench and helped create a goal or two

UpTheToon
The odd flash of brilliance but mostly annoying. Fell over a lot. One of the contributing factors in the throwing away of the title lead. Not his fault but he unbalanced the side. still, wouldn't say he fell into either of the two categories stated. Willow
I remember when he nutted keith curl hahaha maybe in his 1st or 2nd game? not sure but as soon as I saw that I loved him. One of my favourite toon players EVER. Tino Asprilla will long be remembered by Newcastle fans, not least for a dazzling hat-trick against Barcelona in their team’s first Champions League campaign, counterpointed by one of the most spectacular fouls ever seen in these parts – an elbow-headbutt combination against Keith Curle in a match with Manchester City. In two years on Tyneside, the gun-toting, pornstar-fancying, moped-riding, poodle-loving Colombian also spiced things up off the pitch. edit: oh fuckin hell, watch a video just entitled 'Asprilla' on youtube, it'll make you feel totally awesome

Tooj
The idea that signing him cost us the title is one of the biggest myths in football. Yup. What cost us was the fact Sir Les couldn't hit a barn door in the second half of the season and he lost if mentally. Rob Lee never scored a goal as well for a few months. Gillespie getting injured impacted the balance of the team. Plus having two jokers in goal didn't help either.

Saying that Pav was a clown as well at the best of times. Although that save against Everton was one of the best I've ever seen. As was Shaka's at home against Liverpool.
