Punk77
Small fee because he wants out and only has a year left on his contract. He's gone because Liverpool are a higher profile club globally, and have been for years. If they have a wage cap it's higher than ours, so he's probably pulling something like an extra £1.5 million a year. It's a comment on where we are. FFS we haven't been a f*cking honeypot of a club for about 8 years. Bizarrre how people throw hissy fits about us not having a recognised left back in mid August. We went for about 3 seasons under Souness, Roeder, Allardyce and Keegan without a left back we wanted to put on the pitch. He needs replacing but Jose going has been on the cards for months and it's time to move on.... That is most people's problem. We have known for ages he is going so why isn't there a replacement here now? Because the club wanted to wait as long as possible, hoping that Enrique would change his mind..And they need the money from Enrique's sale to finance his replacement..And they cannot take on another player's salary without eliminating Enrique's Stop with this nonsense. Please. Grow a brain. Please.
Disco
If they need the finance (they don't IMO) it's funny how Liverpool managed to get Carroll the moment the Torres deal was agreed, very odd that we seem incapable of doing this...again.
Carlito
Also let's not forget that 'last-minute January £12m bid' for N'Zogbia. Didn't need the Enrique money to finance bids then did we? Fucking nonsense man.

Too many contingencies..Selling Carroll only if we could find a replacement..With Liverpool paying a stunning £35 mill for him, it's likely that they did not accept such a solution.. Liverpool still had to fork out £35m which could have gone anywhere they wanted. The 'Chelsea paid for Carroll' is just a way to avoid admitting the extortionate fee paid. I kind of bought it at the time but it makes less sense now they've spunked so much money all over the place this summer, without selling players for £50m. quayside
Anyone that still has a glimmer of faith or a grain of trust in Ashley or Llambias is a f***ing idiot. Welcome to the real world of Premiership football. So who do you trust? Agents? Players? Apart from the Man City lot, who have money to burn, are there any owners out there you really think are the dog's nuts? The Spurs boys know how to run a football club but it's a mistake to think they will sacrifice the money motive for the football motive when push comes to shove. Maybe John Henry looks solid but coming off Hicks and Gillet anyone would. Lerner was looking like an angel until financial reality kicked in. Arsenal seem to be in a "transitional phase". Anyone else pulling up trees out there?

It was a high fee, but they wanted Carroll and exploited Chelsea's desire to buy Torres in order to get him irrespective of the fee. Simple as that. It was perfectly sensible IMO. Anyone else pulling up trees out there? Having followed NUFC since the early 80s, I think i'm well aware of the real world of both pre and post premiership football, and pointing out other people/clubs who have ballsed up still doesn't validate the rimmer twins in any way any more than those who try and justify Ashley's tight-fistedness by bringing up Fat Fred's tenure (who was a useless shitbag, too). Knowing that there's f*** all the fans can realistically do about it doesn't make it any less depressing; at least prior to Keegan mark II the majority of Newcastle fans knew little else but mediocrity. Agreed, its nonesense to be honest. Its not like Chelsea were going to only give Liverpool £15m if they didn't buy Carroll so it didn't matter what they paid. If they'd gotten Carroll for £20m they'd have gotten £30m plus Carroll, if they hadn't bought Carroll they'd have had £50m to spend on a better player. Like you say its an excuse. Chicken Dancer
Ffs. This is like when you're going out with a really fit lass, who you know is too good for you, and you know one day she's going to 'ask for a talk'. But until that day comes, you convince yourself that it isn't going to happen, and you will be with her forever. Just me then
Heron
Seen this coming for weeks and weeks but it still hurts none the less. Nolan was my favourite NUFC player int he current squad, but he's been move on. Enrique was probably my next favourite and he's been moved on. They're trying to move Barton on and to be honest all that's left out of personal favourites for me is Tiote and Coloccini. Coloccini will have been given a decent enough contract and th captains armband or dare I say it he could have so easily been away also. Surprisingly enough, i thought Tiote would be the first out the door with someone like Chelsea in for him but he's the one that's remained here. We had no contingency plan for Carroll, and we scraped through unscathed. It seems to me that they believe they can easily do it again with the loss of key squad members this summer and I hope to God it works but eventually one of these gambles will go tits up and we'll be relegated. I'm so glad there's so much shit in the league to give us a reasonable chance of not being in a relegation scrap. However, one thing I would say is that the promoted sides have forward momentum - we've lost all ours in one transfer window. I don't hate Jose for this, I would probably do the same if I were him. He may love the club, but they're certainly not going to match his ambition at the moment. I don't mind where I work - but if I seen the company going backwards and making decisions I deemed stupid then I'd most likely leave too. I'm just pissed off it's Liverpool again. I'm pissed off that we have the potential to become the usual laughing stock with more mismanagement. There is obviously the potential that we also wont be, and we'll be able to laugh at everyone else, but given my lack of knowledge on our new signings, I'm not sitting to hopeful going into this season (and I'm normally Mr Optimistic.) :-[

binnsy
I'm surprised we're not at least trying to get Insua as part of the deal, left back, argentinian, would probably get on with jonas and colo Liverpool offered him to us as part of the deal and Ashley said no. Also Jose had told the club if they didn't let him go he would buy himself out of his contract at xmas.
Newcastle Fan
Whats pissing me off is that even after the 35M we got from them were still worrying this season about our fucking "wage budget" and our fucking spending and not paying slighty more for players that are good..while our best players are leaving, with all the "business" the club has been doing i think we as fans are entitled to at least ONE really good signing, instead of a a bunch of average ones.
