I've never really thought about it, but the way Arsenal do them deep free-kicks is actually really idiotic, by starting offside and then running into position it just allows the defense to step up a bit, or the free-kick taker to be slightly too early, and you have a goal disallowed. You have specialized coaches and the best he can come up with is something that is fundamentally flawed.

It had nowt to do with an obstruction. The goalscorer was offside when the cross was played.

Must have been some other player that were offside by interfering with play? Maybe they had to look into how much he interfered etc. Otherwise it seems mad that they took so long. Or maybe they spent time confirming that semi automated picked the correct player. Don't know how the tech works.

Theres not much wrong with the premise of VAR With automated offsides that call should take about 0.5 seconds though, not 3 minutes
