I don't disagree with that. I just can't believe people think we're better off without him.

Selling our good players and replacing them with shit has nothing to do with our current state? Fact is we should never have sold Bellamy.
-
Yep, we've certainly improved since he left. I for one am much happier with the current state of play now that we don't have to worry about Bellamy's name appearing in the press. In the final 1/3 of the pitch, out on the paddock....... have we? What happens out on the pitch is what matters most. Erm, it was sarcastic.

It's Sunday, it's half twelve, it's number one... it's ASHLEY TO SELL UP!
Shearergol replied to Wullie's topic in Football
most people here don't know what chants you mean billy. They haven't been heard for a number of years. The thing is, it would appear some people rather foolishly would prefer us to stick with Ashley, but if this bloke took over and is interested in the football, he'd blow him - and everybody else - out of the water. Complete no brainer. Eh? If my aunt had a cock she'd be my uncle. What are you actually trying to say? -
I reckon we could do with a few more centre backs. Aye well if Terry has the same bad luck he had last season I guess you could do with the cover.... That joke's so old you might have to explain it to most people on here....

Perhaps you should go over the top next time you post. Not sure I can handle the realistic comparison you've used there.

How I laughed when you were on here moaning when it looked like you were going to sign him last Summer. mackems.gif And then we signed him. Hopefully this summer you laugh because it looks like we'll sign him... then he stays on your wage bill for another year. What? Surely you mean another 4 years?

Never quite meant this as much on here, but seriously, f*** off. Interesting. You pull him up for hoping for a broken leg but don't jump on the cunt in this thread who hopes he has ebola virus. Sorry, gave up reading after that post. Fuck off whoever said about the ebola virus too then

There's probably plenty of shit failed strikers we could sign.

Why don't we? Because Smith is better than we can actually get? I'm as pissed off as everyone that (it looks like) we're not signing a replacement for Smith, but I also accept that if we don't sign a striker, we can't afford to let Smith go. The squad is as thin as we've ever had it in the Premiership, we simply cannot let more players go without replacements coming in. This sort of reasoning is exactly why he is still here and it's just dead wrong.. I don't disagree to be honest. However, the correct way to do things is to bring a replacement in, and then let him go. Might be poor business, but it's good football sense. I'm speculating that we won't sign a striker before the transfer window shuts, but I bet nobody is willing to put money on us getting someone, are they? £50 then Gol that we bring someone in that can play as a striker. How about bringing in a striker, which is what I said? I actually think we'll sign a creative midfielder, so I'm not taking that bet with you
-
Exactly. Add Duff and Milner to that then. Obviously the club have proved over the last few years just how successful we've been at replacing people. Seriously, if Smith is so shit, and it'll be so easy to replace him, why exactly are we leaving it so late in the transfer market? Do you think we already have someone lined up, or do you think Keegan has your attitude and is happy to wing it?

Why? Because we kinda have to have a squad. I don't see any successful teams going into a season with just about enough players to fill half the bench. So you'd keep him because he's a human being? Flog him and get someone from the reserves in as an emergency measure, save 50-60k a week. Hang on, I've already made that point when I said about bringing in a league one player, which people said was pointless. Make your mind up. What do you think the club should do, and what do you think they will do? I think the club SHOULD look for a quality striker and sell Smith. I think they will either keep Smith, or sell him and not replace him.
-
Play a striker in front of the defence and I think you'd be wrong. I'm by no means a Smith fan by the way, but if he were that easy to replace you'd hope that our Billionaire owner might try and do it.
-
Signing a decent striker and selling Smith would make me more happy etc etc... I bet we're not even contemplating signing strikers though.

Why don't we? Because Smith is better than we can actually get? A Premiership club can't sign a striker capable of having more than about five shots a season? Howay. Obviously fucking question on the way now.... Why aren't we then? Because most of them still wouldn't be good enough? We could find someone better than Smith in League One, but there's no point signing them for the Premiership is there? So sell Smith and bring nobody in. Bingo. Eh? If we weren't paying his ridiculous wages, we might be able to. If push came to shove, yes I'd sell him and bring nobody in. No point giving God knows how much a week to someone who doesn't resemble a professional footballer in any way, shape or form. Sorry, but that's bollocks, and highlights the point I made about people on here going overboard on their hatred for players.
-
What would be the point in that? Who said no replacement was coming in? Getting difficult this isn't it. My original post was about keeping Smith if we don't get a replacement; this was followed by "having 10 men would be better than having Smith" and "nobody is better than Smith, he's worse than shit". Kinda appears that people would be happy to sell Smith, even if nobody came in, which is absolute nonsense.

Jesus, take the post in context. It followed the question of why don't we sign a cheap league one striker. Seeing as every single one of you avoid the point, do you honestly think we should get rid of Smith if no replacement comes in?
