  1. Honestly, I don't know why any of those three you've named would join you. Brunt is in a side who'll probably find bouncing back easier than you, seeing as they've got a proven Championship side. Ebanks-Blake gets a shot at the Premiership. And Jason Scotland is playing for a really exciting club atm and is their talisman, it's no more than a sideways step. You'll be able to attract more players than any other team, but the star players of teams you're competing with (unless they hit financial difficulties) will probably be slightly out of reach. The clubs won't want to sell them and beyond money I can't see why players would take a sideways step. Sorry mate, but that's nonsense. I'm the first person to say that Newcastle shouldn't have this "bigger than you" attitude, but players like Brunt would jump at the chance of joining. I personally don't think that if you offered him the same wage he's on at WBA that he'd go. If he would, it'd be for the money as well, and the fee that you'd pay for him would simply not be worth it. You are a big club and will be the biggest club in the league next season, but every team finishing in and around the play-offs this season and those coming down will be looking to keep hold of their best players (Paterson, Eagles, Brunt, Bodde, Ledley etc.) rather than sell them to their rivals. The money you'd have to pay would be excessive and it really would not be worth it. I do think though that WBA are a safer bet on bouncing straight back than you, and that for their players to switch to you wouldn't really be worth it for them unless you're paying silly wages (which you don't want to be doing). Although you really couldn't go wrong signing Paul Robinson. There are some real good players below the 'cream' of the Championship, younger players, but you'd be best off tapping into the foreign market a bit like Swansea have done. Try and find a few more Bassongs. That mixed in with a few players with Championship experience would see you through. I agree that that's the approach we should take. I just don't think we'd have players like Brunt turning us down if we really went in for him, even on the same wages. We're still a massive club in the eyes of players. Scunny have a 15% sell on with Burnley for Paterson, so let's hope they sell him
  2. By the way, I don't think we should be going for Brunt. Not exactly a natural goalscorer is he.

  4. No No No No No No and no. He's 33 FFS! There are plenty of younger, fitter, better equipped strikers who would come here and do a job. Cox from Swindon, Keogh from Wolves to name but two.
  5. They've ALL been shit. Even Bassong is only being hero-worshipped because he's young and not quite as shit as the others.
  6. Because the other 23 threads about this aren't going very well?
  7. After Butt, Martins and Jonas are the first two I want out this club (assuming Owen's already gone like)

    Steve Harper

Said in another thread, should sign Joe Murphy whilst he's still in contract talks with Scunny.
  9. Why not? Some people compare Jonas to Park. Because both comparisons are madness. Park and Tevez are a thousand times the players that Jonas and Martins are. I agree that Park is loads better than Jonas. Tevez is valued at more than 2.5 times what Martins is. My point was is Tevez worth 2.5 times more than Martins? You may think he is, I don't. We'll see where Martins ends up and how he does. Also, to be fair to him, he was injured a lot this year (and his mother died). Tevez is worth about 10 times the amount Martins is tbh
  10. Lets hope the fans and players alike don't take that attitide into games next season. Leeds, Forest, Sheff Weds, even Man City had exactly the same "we shouldn't be here" attitude and it made it all the more sweeter for the likes of QPR, Blackpool and Plymouth when they beat them. I really do hope the fans drop this soon. Newcastle DO deserve to be playing Championship football I'm afraid. Granted, more people will be watching them, but there are better teams in that league than Newcastle were last season.
  11. Think this place is gonna get very very quiet?
  12. I think that's because it stopped being funny 20 years ago.
  13. You didn't see him play in the Championship then. He was awful. Need a couple of young pacey strikers for that league.
  14. It took Man United 18 years from being relegated to being the best team in England. Anyone patient? Been reading quite a few fan forums, and although people are having a laugh, 99% of them are gutted for Newcastle fans.
  15. Hooper's going nowhere. Keogh from Wolves would be an excellent signing. Joe Murphy to replace Harper. Scunny would sell for a decent fee, they have before when they gt promoted and I think it was Sharp left All in all we need two decent wingers, commanding centre half who can rough and two mobile strikers who aren't afraid to mix it n all. Not sure what happened after his loan at Norwich ended by Lita would be a decent signing n all Sharp had one year left on his contract though, and his hometown club came in for him. Completely different situation. Hooper has already said (to me personally, not just in the press) that he needs at least one more season at Scunthorpe. Fulham started watching him half way through the season and were told that he wouldn't be leaving until at least 2010. Having said that, I think Sharp may go back for a season's loan, so who knows
  16. Hooper's going nowhere. Keogh from Wolves would be an excellent signing. Joe Murphy to replace Harper.
  17. No offence mate, but what point are you exactly trying to make? That big club Forest which Scunny hammered twice when they last played them?
  18. I'll have a couple of rooms spare for anyone coming to that match. What a crazy day or stupidly mixed emotions. After following both Scunthorpe and Newcastle for 26 years, they'll now both be in the same division
  19. If you're playing over summer I'll come up and play for the reds
  20. Can you think of a player who has EVER done that for us? Bassong? Oops, I didn't mean to upset the Bassong fans
  21. Can you think of a player who has EVER done that for us?
  22. I refuse to watch. Wake me up at the start of next season, wherever we play.
  23. I'm no fan of norwegian football, or players at all, but even i can see that he could have a bright future if he's given the chance. And on top of that he really like's Newcastle and if we were in for him i could imagine him going for a contract with us instead of the others if we just asked him to come play. He wouldn't have a bright future if he signed for us though. Surely he has an agent pointing that out to him?

    If we go down...

It will be like a cup final for the teams listed and others when Newcastle United roll into town! Leicester had the same problem in league 1. Oh, wait....
