why is it thst under the curren regime we aere waiting until the end of the transfer window, as in the previous regime most transfers were done by july Getting them in early means you've got to pay them their wages for August...

So what is the point in spending money in January to help us get promotion then getting relegated the following season for not consolidating You're asking the wrong bloke mate. I can't make sense of what Ashley's doing either.

Hang on lads, hold your horses - this lad knows exactly what bids we've made. Let me guess, you can't tell us how you know, but you know. Someone's a little cranky. I'm not claiming ITK at all on this one. Not the best sources, but other more reliable places have mentioned us watching him too. http://www.tribalfootball.com/newcastle-made-check-fc-twente-midfielder-tiote-cheick-1037551 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/premier-league/7915859/Premier-League-Transfer-Talk-Club-by-club-Football-Transfers-Football-Rumours-July-28.html http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/article?contentId=2076177 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_6304588,00.html So you've read that we've bid 2.5m for him then? I am in a bit of a shitty mood seeing as you've asked btw.

Jackie Charlton is as mad as a pan of crabs.

Someone like Denns Wise would be perfect for us. Knows the game well, has contacts, good business brain, experience of management etc. Get the little shit in Ashley.
-
All the cheap lads? Not going to happen. Just guessing who Parky had in mind. Not those exact people but someone to do the job here as they do (have done) at their clubs.
-
Kenyon, Gill, Dein, Parry (as was).. etc I assume? Isn't Llambias just a monkey who has run a casino?
-
What I meant was that the club would be guaranteed a pot of cash even on relegation. I we went straight back up then we'd be i exactly the same situation we are in now. I know it's me getting ahead of the situation but I'm struggling to understand how his mind and logic works.
-
No-one knows what goes on in Ashley's mind but it wouldn't surprise me if, in a bizarre twist of logic, we appear to have made a bit of a rod for our own back by winning the CCC so comfortably last season. Had we scraped it by a point or two then Ashley may not have taken the chance of coming straight back down because we'd cut it so fine. By winning promotion by about 25 points it's encouraged Ashley to do it on cheap knowing that if we go down again we'll just piss the league like we did last season. He's sitting there assuming that if the worst comes to the worst and we go back down then we'll get these new imporved parachute payments and we'll bounce back again.
-
There has to be a balance between spending beyond our means and spending virtually nothing. I thought the penny had dropped in January where he released a modest amount of money to buy Routledge which gave us an extra gear which meant we pissed the league. Why he can't apply the same common sense to this transfer window I've got no idea. Releasing another modest amount of money to get the likes of Ben Arfa in would have made complete sense but he's trying to do it on the cheap. We're going to yo-yo for the next few years imo.

I've not got a problem with only spending what we've got coming in, balancing the books, paying off the debt etc - it's comon sense in this day and age and I never expected the club to shell out £15m (or even close to that) on transfer fees this summer...but when a player of his potential (and sell-on fee) is on the market and desperate to join us then I'd expect us to bend the rules a little and make a little cash available. That's what's disappointing tonight - the club were in a position to do a deal for a relatively small fee for a very good player and we've, seemingly, missed out. We may not get this type of deal for this type of player or a long time to come and Ashley and Llambias can have no-one to blame but themselves if they're presiding over another relegation in May. This lad could have been the difference.

He might command a fee?

Sometimes words fail me. Every other f***ing post tbh. His post is exactly what's wrong with a lot on here you included. It's always Ashley's fault, you can't see the wood for the trees and always see the pessimism in any transfer situation regarding Newcastle. I'm quoting this heap of s*** so you can't delete it when you've sobered up. He's f***ed this one up because he's trying to do things on the f***ing cheap. Has the penny not dropped yet? I don't drink.

It's always Ashley's fault, you can't see the wood for the trees and always see the pessimism in any transfer situation regarding Newcastle. What a f***ing dimwit you are. Whose fault is it then that we wouldn't pay a ridiculously low fee for a young French international? It's nothing to do with paying fee's. Marseille said to him, go and find a new club. He didn't say I want to leave, they told him to go, so he did everything became agreed, then some other clubs came sniffing around and they got greedy and decided to start moving the goalposts so to speak. The interested parties such as Benfica decided against it when they found out his wage demands, all the while we were still under the idea of a loan for 800k. They started demanding more money claiming more interest when there really wasn't. Rightly or wrongly, I believe rightly we said no because we had a deal in place, and the player was doing it all on his own by refusing to train. I think we were right to hold our position, they wanted an outright purchase, we didn't, and with good reason. He's a fantastic talent no doubt about that I'd love to have him here, but he has undeniable attitude problems, there's nothing stopping him pulling this with us when a bigger club comes in. If come September 1st , we have no one of similar potential or in that position, then I will openly criticise the club for not having contingency plans should this deal collapse. But to make out like we've dithered and made excuses is daft. They've tried to be greedy and we've not budged. Aye, we've dodged that bullet, eh? Well done us. Yay!

Ashley: The only billionaire to look a gift horse in the mouth. Can't believe we missed out, the lad was desperate to sign for us and we've fucked this up over a few hundred grand. Jesus died crying.

Oh well, at least we didn't pay over the odds then eh? That's the main thing.

Yep. Woeful. SSN had some nimrod going through the OPTA stats from last night to demonstrate how good Scholes was, and he was class btw, and our best passer (completed passes) was Barton with about 57 iirc. Man Utd had 4 or 5 players who completed more passes but Barton was our top performer. Found it difficult to believe but it was the official stats they used. Thought Barton did alreet myself. Kept it ticking over in the middle when we had the ball. Lacked urgency though at times although that could've been due to lack of options. Seemed to give the ball away loads whilst watching the game but he was always involved and didn't hide. He was comfortably better than Nolan and more mobile and involved than Smith. Would love to see how many passes Gutierrez completed...

Yeah but if he's flicking it on to no-one on a regular basis then surely it would be better to attempt to bring it down once in a while? Not having a go at carroll as he was really good tonight, more the fact he was so isolated at times it made no sense to flick it on as the midfield were so deep it was untrue.
-
If carroll's playing as a lone striker i'd expect him to try to bring it down and keep possession rather than flick it on. Where's his brains? Winning the header might look impressive but if the ch knows that his team are going to pick possession up straight away then it becomes canny dumb.

Look what was on the bench man. Jesus Christ. Barton, Smith and Nolan were all going to play, given Guthrie and Loven were both injured. If we'd had a fully fit squad and he'd still plumped for a 4-5-1, i'd have been pretty disappointed. As it was, we were on a hiding to absolutely nothing against a side like Manu - cos their players will just run the midfield and create chances all day long. We won't be the only ones they take to pieces this season. Exactly. They put 3 past Chelsea last weekend and will score loads this season.
