similar to "ace" (ie. toon sign ajax ace, it was ray clarke)....always on football headlines but none of my mates has ever said "that messi is ace"

i honestly think he'd take less than that but thinks the prices set (and agreed possibly by moat and sheard) are the going rate with the club in its present state. except they cant get the money.
-
then we wouldn't get any possible transfer fee. a position first worked out, to my knowledge by pierre van hoojadonk (and if that spelling is correct it ir fantakka as it's totally off the top of me nappa)

0-0 and they were down to 10 men after having a player sent off.

dunno like. if it was the other way round it would be a case of "i understand their point but the ref didn't call it off, they did and the rules must take their course".
-
surely if they are good enough they'll come through whatever position. Keeper is a pretty hard position to break into. You don't get subbed in for the last minutes if you are winning, and you don't rotate your keeper in the league unless he has some truely shocking form. Always found strange that the EPL employs so so many foreign keepers. even playing outfield coming on for the last few minutes does little. if you werer a manager would you be swayed by a great 10 mins in the first team over a poor month in training and poor reserve performances ?

defoes at spurs now so they aren't allowed to make out it was anything less miraculous.

Steven Taylor could play rush goalie has done before i suppose.
-
with the quality of the available goalies i'd be tempted to play another outfiled player and go 4-4-3.

i don't really care about brad inmans foot right now. -
Why you think it'd make a difference to him? the club is worth more now than it would be in a few months time in mid table.(or worse)

i don't even see the half critical in it. it is parodying the stereotype and phil has missed it entirely. unless phil is whooshing us all in what i guess was his reply on the mirror page by creating himself into exactly the type of stereotype that would get us the reputation he is sooo much at pains to protest that the press stop having a go at.

You can look at it that way, or you can wonder why the digs increase when the club is doing badly - but not attacking the club, attacking the fans - I have lost count of the number of articles tearing into Newcastle fans. From the broad sheets too. But the Mirror worse than any of them. My own favourite was the Mirror's attack on NUFC fans for "only" selling 25,000 season tickets - I don't know if they've even sold that many, but hell - most of the Prem would give their eye teeth for that. But the Mirror acted as if this was a sign of how "fair weather" the fans are, FFS ! you could ask why everyone attacks man utd fans for all coming from london. we have a large support that has for various reasons been able to fill the media with it's complaining and moaning. in london spurs fans are treated the same. do you complain when the media go on about how good our fans are and are regularly called the loyalist by the media ? i doubt it. phil you are going way over the top and seem paranoid about it, for years the media made out we were the greatest fans in the game, they still regularly do then have a dig at some of our more eccentricly viewed fans.

The article pissed me off because it was pointless and poorly written, but I've got to side with Madras in a way here. The writer's not saying that we're running away with the league making it a bore-fest, he is saying that he's surprised (and disappointed) that NUFC aren't crashing and burning in a self-destructive fashion like normal. 'Spoiling it for the neutrals' means we're keeping the soap opera entertainment value minimal by winning games with little fuss. I still thought it was a poor article mind. Good point. If only some of those attacking others (wonder who I'm thinking of ?) had the basic intelligence to phrase it correctly like this instead of peabrained personal attacks, then there wouldn't have been backbiting, just discussion. the article doesn't even say that, all it says it that we haven't become the spectacular leeds style disaster everyone had hoped (not out of spite phil but because everyone likes to see larger clubs get a comeuppance). i specialise in peabrained personal attacks, it's called banter, take that away and the forum is dead.

I recall the initial digs at Leeds - which mainly (almost exclusively in fact) came from other fans, not the rags. Then it became disbelief as they plummeted, and had a collossal points deduction against them and then - in spite of Dennis Wise - they got SUPPORT for their bid to overcome the 15 point defecit from the rags. We, on the other hand, get a steady number of attacks (why else is there a dedicated THREAD to the press' attitude to us, with constant articles in this vein ?) i used to visit the wacco (leeds site) about the time we bought woodgate then milner (my username was "eden") and they were saying the very same as you are now. It's actually a slight case of paranoia. we are a big club therefore worth writing about but win nowt so they are unlikely to be fullsome in their praise as it isn't actually warranted.
