My girlfriend, mother and sister all think he's perfect 'boyfriend material'. How can I compete with Tim f***ing Krul... you want to compete with tim krul for your mothers and sisters affections ?

If you want to shrug your shoulders and just broadly collect two thirds of the division together like that, then cool. I see there being clear differences between you and Sunderland beyond the tangible aspects you've mentioned (which, fwiw, provide a massive distinction by themselves). That's not some pro-Newcastle bollocks just because I'm here. I think the difference is clear to see. Going "well, at the end of the day, we're pretty much on the same level looking for the same things" strikes me as lacking passion and conviction. I'm not using the word "purpose" in a strict, literal sense either. No club is definitively "meant" to do X, Y or Z, but it's clear where Sunderland's position is. I think trying to categorise yourselves as being in roughly the same position is to do a massive disservice to you as a club, and would seem in line with the systematic attempts of lowering of fans' expectations your owner/manager appear intent on persisting with. It goes beyond football IMO. Newcastle as a city is far more attractive, cosmopolitan and distinctive. Sunderland just looks like a poor man's version in every respect. They are so obsessed with us they even redesigned their club badge to look more like ours. That's not bias talking either, Durham City is in Wearside, but it's an attractive destination in it's own right. Unlike the shithole known as Sunderland. the spiteful rivalries do. liverpool/manchester is similar in that it goes beyond football, the story going that the manchester ship canal saw an end to liverpool as a port of world significance and the antipathy between the two cities as a result. I did here a story about the non football tensions between cardiff and swansea (in my mind the only derby that comes close to ours for spite) but I'm buggered if I can remember it.

at a guess "fuck off you bar code bassa"

we're scrapping for mid table. they're scrapping to avoid setting a new record for lowest points for the third time in a generation.
-
some use that excuse every home game eh jill ?
-
tbh, I would prefer 1-9 , if I could choose any scoreline. 9-0 and they've got nothing left to use against us though. I could actually picture them celebrate a goal at 1-9 down like they'd won the cup just to keep the record. i'd much rather a 1-0 win in my lifetime than a 9-1 sixty years before I was born. (so would they but they'd never admit it.)

remember it's a very one sided account though. more so than a biography.
-
it's youtubeable for those interested in history. didn't realise keith peacock (gavins dad) was the gills manager at the time.
-
theres a difference between questioning his behaviour and slagging it off.
-
for the pernickety out there i think mick is referring to seaburn, not seaham.
-
surely we can't really make our minds up on the rights or wrongs behind colo's return to Argentina until we know the full circumstances. some things are more important than football, his job is more important than some other things.

right, it seems like the gillingham-toon story needs explained. yonks ago, the mackems were dragged into a play off, the way they should be, shite from a higher division against wanabees from a lower divison. remember mind, this was sunderland (second division/tier) and gillingham (third division/tier). first leg I think the gills won3-1 and basically a winner takes all scenario, no wembley play off then, loads of mags turned up at Joker park to see the mackems fail to overturn the result..............and they obliged, won 4-3 I think but still went down. many a mag-gill link was maintained for a while. in joker that night there were three sections, amckem, mag and mag-gill. I weren't there for what it's worth but enjoyed it via the radio , the name Howard Pritchard stil sends a shiver down the spine.
-
I did (know no-one), enjoyed it but never been back sinse. make of that what you will. edit, yorkie was such a psuedo pro aswell, making everyone do warm ups, you know like shuttle runs etc instead of just taking shots at the keeper.

on the bright side, we aren't likely to draft in a 2 decade out wes brown.

tbf it's more "can't" than "won't".

A few on here will be moiping all over, no more foreign fannies! Get them named then. Obviously exaggerating, just find it funny that there were a few people blaming all of our woes on having too many foreigners in our team was it foreigners or frenchies in particular ? I'll refrain from making throwaway comments in the future FWIW I agree with Mole that it wouldn't be too desperate, providing they get protection from the midfield and the fullbacks don't decide to have one of their days off from defending. I agree to a point, defend like we did on saturday and we'll be fine however I think they'll look to try and bully whoever we play, dummett or good. just think good, from the little I saw for bradford seemed more up for that sort of thing. if we needed a left back I'd have no worries sending dummett in.

decider for me could be that against fletcher and altidore, good is about 3ins taller than dummett.
-
Slightly mad in a derby no? how so ? more big game experience if anything with league cup final, semis etc for bradford and a natural centre half. No PL experience and you want to through him into a derby away? Madness. dummetts premiership experience is aprox 90 mins, technically good has more experience against premiership teams.

if thats true and for all dummett done well on there on saturday I'd probably bring good in.
-
I find it difficuilt to gather much respect for clubs support when they are doing well, or very well in their case.
-
do teams practise in the colour/style kit they'll be using for their next game or practise at the same time as their next game ? could it have any beneficial effect ?
-
tbf I think most were OK with 4 centre halves.
-
No. Mbiwa walked straight down the tunnel as well when he was sent off on Saturday. c***. He should have stayed on the sidelines to support his team. I thought players weren't allowed to sit on the bench after being sent off.
