Leon Best fee was nearly £2m Feb 2 2010 Add a comment Recommend COVENTRY City sold Leon Best to Newcastle United for a fee close to £2m, the Telegraph can reveal. The Magpies came in with a late offer for the centre-forward on Sunday night, which was accepted and the player was then given permission to speak to the club. See Leon Best's Coventry City career in pictures.... He travelled to the North East yesterday morning where he agreed personal terms and passed a routine medical before putting pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract. City fans will no doubt be pleased with the fee for Best which appears a decent return for a player who cost the club just over £1 million from Southampton, and for whom they were confident of getting somewhere in the region of £2 million if they had kept him and taken it to a tribunal in the summer. Coleman insisted at the weekend that the club would not let him go for peanuts, saying: “If anyone thinks that because Besty is out of contract that they can come in with a crazy bid and we will accept, it’s not going to happen. "We will keep him and go to a tribunal in the summer when we will get a good fee because we paid a good fee for him – we won’t be forced to sell.” how would it have gone to a tribunal in the summer had he went anywhere then.

i often thought keegan and robson talked shite during those type of interviews. i dont trust him to bollock some either. i dont think keegan done much bollicking to be honest. he dropped butt which many said he wouldnt do, he is playing no faves up front as he fucks about trying to find a decent patnership. we'll probably see if he can be ruthless once barton is fit.

it's because he f***ed one of his team mates over. possibly a team mate who'll be in south africa. thats different to those others. What changes if he's stripped of the captaincy though? He's still going to be in the first team. If Bridge is in there, they're still going to be there. The only alternatives in that team are Gerrard, Rio or Rooney for me. When it comes down to it, the effectiveness of stripping of the captaincy is paramount really, and I cant see what positive effect it would bring at all. nothing changes but he is seen to have some action against him. will him not being captain change the way he or others play ?

would you rather he said he's crap, so is smith and nolan is in because earlier in the season despite playing poorly he scored goals but we are top so i'm prepared to risk it. you don't want the truth....you couldn't handle the truth.

i never listen. it's all either dressed shite or naked shite. the only time managers are honest is if they think it will help their team by slagging them off in public.
-
isn't that what all managers do and why the interviews are pointless ? Not to that extent man. obviously you only really take notice of those that concern us. no managers are honest and they shouldn't be if they are doing thir jobs right.
-
he's done as much with that squad as most others could do.

don't know how you can say that when you haven't a real dea about what is going on and we are in a position no-one would have predicted in the summer.
-
so did n'zogbia. guthrie lad, if you want to play there make sure you take your chance when you do play there...you haven't so far.
-
lampard is like ian wright and beardsley.....just cant be for the national team what he is for his club.
-
the new leicester (showing me agae)
-
and the reason you can't is.....................................

You think he can cut it as a PL manager? Yes he can cut in PL ..... Even if he doesn't he deserve the chance after what he have done this year.... why ppl forget how he fix everything this season is beyond my imagination. Pl survival isn't about ramanticism or loalty, it's about getting the best poss people in every role we can manage. Sorry. He's done alright in difficult conditions, but IMO he should go back as coach as soon as we get up, the quicker the better. I'd like a new manager in by the summer to start getting things right from the start. i like "ramanticism"..it's like rampant romanticism.

Do we have 27 points? What? As i've said, the attack is good enough for perhaps 5th place, the defence is the best in the league and is by far the main reason we're in 1st. and the central midfield ?
-
-
why the conjecture, it will be,injuries permitting.......routledge-smith-nolan-gutierrez.
-
doubt it. neither nolan nor smith will be dropped till barton is fit to start.
-
to what ? the top of the screen ?
-
only when he loses a limb would be my guess.
-
So did we, apparently in Owen, plus we had Martins who was always capable of getting a goal. and veruka,barton,nolan,duff.......tonnes of goals there.

Everytime I see you post I think your called toontownWOMAN. Literally every time. Wishful thinking, but I'm afraid not, only on tuesdays. ah well. 62mins.

1 goal, 3 assists and still played poorly eh. Can't help but wonder if the rest of the squad did that much in 06? yes he did play poorly. he also got the ball more than anyone else due to who he is and the ammount of possession he wasted was shocking.
