  1. Don't think changing the name of the club or the shirt colours is the next step up from changing the ground name. Reckon that would be changing the club crest, something that has been changed several times anyway, and incorporating Sports Direct into the new design. I mean, think how many times club crests are shown in graphics etc.
  2. Really need Silva not to come on so my captain goes to RVP
  3. Arreta's done well for me in our Antisy Football League, where we try and pick the shittest team possible while spending over 95m and with penalties for not fielding a full 11.
  4. The famous bronze statue of Newcastle United’s great centre-forward hero Jackie Milburn, paid for by generous Chronicle readers over 20 years ago, is to stand outside St James’ Park. It will be moved the 300 yards from its present position on St James’ Boulevard to a spot outside the south-east corner of the stadium opposite the Strawberry pub. There are things you can say to your mates that you wouldn't say to strangers, colleagues, your wife's parents, your boss... It may well be that you can make a joke about the holocaust or call your Asian mate a paki and because the people present know you, they realise you're being deliberately inappropriate, that you're taking the piss out of people who really hold those views or whatever and it doesn't mean you're a racist, a homophobe or whatever. And I'd have a lot of sympathy for someone who was caught on a candid phone video and crucified for that. But come on man it's fucking basic, you don't come out with that kind of stuff in public in front of people who don't know you or barely know you or you're going to have some consequences from employers or acquaintances.

Was Nile Ranger fined for thinking something, like? No, he was fined for doing something stupid.

Could certainly get done for a public order offence. But at any rate, I think any person in their right mind would expect to be in trouble at work if they started openly calling one of their mates a faggot in front of customers.

I'm sure as a percentage of his salary it's less than I'd get as a fixed penalty notice for calling someone a faggot down the Bigg Market in earshot of some coppers. How much is he on? Work that out as a percentage, apply that to your wage and see if it sounds so outrageous.

No, of course not, that's the whole point He's calling someone a homosexual slur as an insult. The Premier League are currently trying to rid themselves of the environment which means not a single one of the homosexual professional footballers in the country can be open about their sexuality. And you have absolutely no idea why they might object to top flight players calling people 'faggots' or 'silly little gays' in messages broadcasts to fans all over the country? None at all?

For the quote above where he calls someone a faggott? If so that is absolutely outrageous. How so? If I was a sportsman and I called a mate of mine a nigger, spacker, kike or whatever as an insult in the public domain I'd expect to have some kind of sanction imposed on me. Why should it be any different for 'faggot'? It's a nonsense man, he's a having a crack on with a mate and would most likely call him it and worse to his face and receive the same back in spades. It's PC gone mad man, £6K for having a laugh with his mate, absolute disgrace. But he's not just having a crack on with a mate, he's broadcasting it to the entire world. Considering the Premier League is having so much trouble battling institutional homophobia I'm amazed he got off with a fine. If you ran a twitter account followed by thousands of your employers customers and started using homophobic or racial slurs on it, do you think your employer might have a problem with it?

Here's an idea Nile, if you're getting in trouble for posting stupid stuff on twitter in your more unguarded moments, how about you give it a rest for a bit and not immediately whip your BlackBerry out to give your initial opinion on the matter.

  14. It was nice that they paid tribute to Martin's Belfast roots by doing it as a mural on the side of their house.

  17. I'm sitting with someone who was sent to the bookies by his mates before the match to put ten quid on Liverpool to win in extra time. He got confused and put fifty on them winning in normal time. After normal time finished he tried to cut his losses by putting 20 quid on Cardiff winning.
  18. Some poor fucker standing guard again tonight, must be expecting people to get pissed and have another go.
  19. How on earth does the Canada top look so shit compared to the Engand top? How can one company make two plain white/plain red football shirts and there be such a gulf in quality?

  22. He's probably accepted the job on the condition they pretend to procrastinate for a few days and don't make him have his debut at SJP.
  23. The Union Rooms (Wetherspoons) is handy for the train station... Is it likely to be quietish the night of a derby though, or full of roaring drunk maniacs? Love eating and drinking in the Town Wall at the moment, just opposite central up Pink Lane. Whats the town wall like and where is it? And again, what sort of atmosphere will it be on the eve of the derby? Cheers Should be more laid back than places like the gate or Weatherspoons. More expensive mind. Their website has a map etc. Always got a canny selection of beers on. http://www.thetownwall.com/ Food's only served till 7pm on Saturday though. I'd agree with the Town Wall, or The Forth which is opposite. What time does it serve food till on saturdays? (the forth) Monday to Saturday: Noon - 10pm / Sunday: Noon - 9.30pm
