Would like to know how many of those are new grounds. Bay Arena - Bayer Leverkusen - 1958 Signal Iduna Park - Dortmund - 1974 badenova Stadium - Freiburg - 1953 Imtech Arena - Hamburg - 1953 AWD Arena - Hanover - 1954 Rhein Energy Stadium - Koln - 1923 easycredit Stadium - Nuremberg - 1928 Mercedes Benz Arena - Stuttgart - 1933 They are the older stadiums in Bundesliga 1 which have been renamed multiple times for many years. There are even more lower down the leagues. In deals which got the teams money. I'm not arguing against the people saying his brand being advertised is wrong. I am arguing with the "we have sold our history" people. I don't quite get your logic though, just because other teams have done this, it doesn't mean it isn't selling your history or your identity. Maybe other clubs have sold their souls, it doesn't mean we should be happy we're doing it. Go have a look on a video site at fans of those teams and then tell me they have sold their souls. Like, videos where thousands of Borussia Dortmund fans are angrily protesting against the financial actions of their board? Or fans from all clubs protesting against the moving of games to maximise TV money? http://sportabc.com/ball/soccer/soccer-german-soccer-federation-upsets-fans.html DO THEY NOT UNDERSTAND ECONOMIC REALITY?!!

Will you be back linking to New York Red Bulls if we have a team name change to prove that didn't sell our history? If a club up sticks and move to another city, can you just say "Well, MK Dons did it, must be OK. Inevitable, even."

Rightly or wrongly, I have a feeling this will be framed as "the moment the wheels came off". We don't expect anything from the next few games, but I wouldn't be surprised if we then can't find our form again and it won't take a big step to place some of that on this abysmal decision completely taking the wind out of our sails and ripping the heart out of our positive start. But I'm sure that'll be worth it as well.

Oh, we'll have a shirt sponsor, just not one that pays us for it.
-
"kitbag dot com" To the tune of Tom Hark.
-
Don't worry, I'll be down at Man City and I'm sure we'll let him know what we think.

So glad Mike lent us that £100m, then spent it on things like signing Alan Smith on a deal worth about £20m in fees and wages, £40m in losses from getting relegated, £2m for constructively dismissing Keegan and then covering however much we lost from no longer being able to show adverts on 80% of our ground because it's covered in freebie billboards, leaving us owing him £100m. Thanks mate, really saved our skin.
-
Llambias said it will bring in an extra 8-10m. I said 'how'. With the extra revenue from SportsDirect. Are you stupid? Sports Direct contributes nothing to the NUFC. 'Cept for the 100m+ put in to cover the debt. Which was what, a payment for advertising or a loan?

Llambias said it will bring in an extra 8-10m. I said 'how'. With the extra revenue from SportsDirect. Are you stupid? Sports Direct contributes nothing to the NUFC. Are you stupid? Its clearly contributing to the expenses column in the accounts....... Prove it. 2010 accounts suggest NUFC receive nothing for promotional services provided for another of Ashley's companies. Prove to me that Stadium Sponsorship hasn't become a major income stream for sports teams in codes all around the world then. Yes, it's an income stream for everyone except us because most of them actually sell the rights. And from what Derek is saying, we're going to lose shirt sponsorship income next year, as we're only willing to sell the shirt and stadium rights as a package so unless we do it'll be replaced with a 'placeholder' of Sports Direct. Kind of like how Barca gave their shirt away for free, but for the sake of starving children instead of trackie bottoms.
-
Barca face up to the economic climate by selling their shirt rights for the first time, after decades holding out and then giving it away for free to UNICEF. We, meanwhile, after decades of bringing in much needed money through selling the rights, decide to give our shirt space away for free, ostensibly to keep it free for whoever buys the 'package' of stadium and shirt rights. It's not just sentimentality vs cold hard financial reality. Mike's plans are bad for the club in all possible ways.
-
So basically we're going to 'compete' by being the only club in the league to not sell the rights to put a company's logo on our shirts.
-
Llambias said it will bring in an extra 8-10m. No, he said if the naming rights were owned by any other company than Sports Direct it would bring in 8-10 million a year. And that could equal a player. A player costing as much as £2m I imagine, once you add on agents fees and the wages for the entire length of his contract. But at the moment the club will be spending money that could have gone on players on an entire rebrand of the stadium and all the extensive admin that entails.
-
Tyne and Wear Metro #nefollowers Lots of you asking about St James Park and we want to make clear we are not renaming St James Metro station.
-
Would rather not have the player and keep the name. Is the player going to play for us for 119 years? Andy Carroll's sale could have equated to 5 players, but it didnt. And that's even if we were selling out for money, rather than spending club money to reduce our advertising potential, as is the reality. Mike thinks our naming rights are worth 10m like he thought the club was worth 180m or whatever it was. If no-one else thinks its worth that and he's not willing to barter, no sale.
-
Mint, makes me feel better about our £0 deal. There was never any intention of handing it over with the @ sign and there isn't now. We're more likely to win the league than not be called SDA next season.

Is Mike Ashley the worst person ever to have been associated with NUFC?

How about if they changed your national anthem to a Foster's jingle? I mean, if there was a possibility that one day a company might pay to change it to something else. These are difficult times, after all. -

People aren't just angry at this from a sentimental point of view by the way, it further decimates our 'global brand' and makes us less attractive to corporate sponsors as a revenue stream. It's not just about choosing warm, fuzzy feelings and cold, hard reality. There is nothing at all to justify this. -
Everyone would be too busy drinking piss. No other club has needed a 'your name here' placeholder telling brands they have the opportunity to be just as villified amongst their audience as Sports Direct. If you believe that's the intention, I have some magic beans to sell you. It's just a line to try to explain away the fact not only have we lost St James Park, but we're getting no money for it. Just like the Sports Direct spamming actually reduces our advertising revenue by giving about 66% of the billboard space to a freebie. Take your loan back and fuck off, Mike.
-
Someone borrow a tent from those occupy Newcastle lot at monument and camp in front of the barrack road sign for when they try and take it down.
-
Would be amazed if kitbag wouldn't give you those for nowt.
-
Far worse than Shepherd, would take Fat Fred back in a heartbeat.
-
By the way, Sports Direct Arena still isn't as bad a name as Stadium of Light.
-
As much as I hate Dave Whelan, I do think the only way of getting it reversed is some sustained chanting advertising JJB or JD Sports. Ashley doesn't care if you sing Sports Direct is fucking shit, any publicity is good publicity for him. But if the upshot is his rivals name being heard worldwide, that is something that would hit him. And it would nix any future change as well, the implication that if Pepsi bought the rights we'd chant about Coke until they turned it back.
-
Absolutely not. That's one of my biggest problems with this; it'll never go back now, same with the signs up everywhere. And the only thing that pisses me off too However Bottom line is we have a very good system now in place at the club, particularly in player recruitment. If this money is channelled in the right way added to the extra revenue success brings we really could see ourselves as major players in the league again and not just half a season wonders I understand the history, I really do, but at the end of the day it's about how competitive we are on the pitch! What would you take SJP name and finish 8-14 every year Different name top 6 most years I'm not saying it will be the defining feature, but it will definately help! We are not getting any f***ing money. How difficult is this to understand? And what if he does sell the naming rights on to someone else, what then ? It's been two years already. Where are these big wigs with their bags of cash? If you read the articles it tells you! Companies wouldn't touch the poison chalice of branding created by this oaf when it was an email address, they won't when it's an arena. It's SDA until we get taken over again.
