That's not my understanding of it. Just because they own the club doesn't mean they are personally liable for the company's debts. If the company goes bust, then the only assets that the creditors will be able to seize on are those that are part of the company. What's more, if they bought the company with money from the bank which was secured against the company's assets (which I think is the case), then it's the bank that's liable to lose out, not the owners. At the moment, the club is declining in value because the debt is increasing. In order to stem the debt, the club will have to sell its best players, which will affect its league position, which will lead to a further decline in value. So it's a vicious circle and neither the banks nor anyone else will be lending any more money in order to get the club out of it. What you need is some mega-rich football fan like Abramovich who is prepared to take on the mess, just for the status of being the owner of Liverpool FC. I'm sure that there is interest in buying the club, but it looks like they're circling the wagons, knowing that the current owners are sitting on a declining asset and will have to admit defeat at some time. The longer they wait, the cheaper the club is going to be. Trouble is, the owners are successful businessmen, and may not like admitting failure. There is some hope, in that the banks seem to have insisted on bringing in Broughton to oversee the sale of the club. But unless you get someone who is absolutely loaded, then the journey back up may be a long one. I am sure I read that they have this rolling 10% interest thing on the £100-odd million they put in to the club when they bought it. I think they also have a clause which means this debt is made payable immediately if the club changes hands. At this amount they will probably be holding out as long as they can until the bank calls in their loan (which they have no way of paying) which I also believe has a deadline in the not too distant future. The only way this 100-odd million plus rolling interest could be paid back is by selling their best players (assets). Of course they longer they hold on the more this amount will be so I guess they are just waiting until the bank makes their move to seize control then activate this clause which will need to be paid and then the banks will have to use what is left to settle the money owed to them. Bit bleak if you ask me. For those who are not aware Hicks and Gillette were involved in a pension scam involving Circatex / Viasystems in South Shields if I recall correctly where money was siphoned off / disappeared in a similar business model / set-up. They was an outcry of course but they just explored some loop holes.

Lad I work with who has family in Liverpool said to me today that there are strong rumours going around there that Gerard has got a young lass pregnant. Anyone else heard this?
-
Not seen anything of this lad but may turn out to be a shrewd signing. Would prefer someone better like Matty Fryatt who gave us the run-a-round on Saturday. He was pretty immense for them and I checked out his stats after watching him. He could even be premiership quality.

Seriously? Potentially the stupidest post in forum history Hmm I think your reply might have just topped it

Yup it was Jonas who changed the game for us. His attacking play was what made the difference. Not sure but it was his attack that led to Harewood goal (which all he had to do was toe it as he was about two yards out from goal. Could you have seen us score before he came on?

My thoughts from last night... Harper - 6. Nothing special. Kicked the ball into touch when and easy pass was on for our right back. Simpson - 6: Got forward well but again did nothing outstanding. Taylor - 7: Looks a difference class Zurab - 6.5: Looks ok and is cool when needed. Remember him pumping up the ball to know one under a bit of pressure instead of passing it across the back. Enrique - 4 : Can defend then spoils it with silly little errors. His woeful pass made their goal. Butt - 3: Supposed to play out left but came into the middle and left Enrique exposed. Out of his depth Smith - 7: Goes for every ball, wins a lot of headers. Good all round play but a silly booking again though. Nolan - 6: Started in the middle then was pushed out left when Butt couldn't do his job. Still did a good job tackling and closing down. Guthrie - 3: He did three things wrong last night for me which were unforgivable. Firstly his penalty was awful, I mean really, really bad. Secondly he was on the break in the oppositions box in the first half and instead of putting the ball across the box he shot at the keepers near post which meant a pretty easy save (this may have been before the penalty). Wasteful. Lastly this was totally unforgivable IMO. We were awarded a free kick near the gallowgate end in the second half when we were chasing the game and I watched him shoot (go for the far post with a lot of power) instead of a cross. All of our tall lads were waiting for a cross. Some people might of thought this was a cross but there was way too much power on it for it to be that and it sailed miles over the bar. Didn't play as a team player tonight IMO. Ranger - 6 pretty quiet, hold up play great. Had a great turn in the first half near the byline but needs to do more than just hold a ball up Carrol - 6. Better than ranger and good in the air. Needs better service. Harewood - 6: Goal was a tap-in. Was ruled offside through on goal moment after when about a mile onside. Looks like he can be useful. Jonas - 8: My MOM. He is our best attacking player and clearly better than anything else we have got. He changed the game and caused all sorts of problems. Lovenkrands - 6: not enough time.
-
Perhaps the reason he isn't being played is because his first team appearances trigger some form of transfer fee payment? He's definitely better than Ranger and I was at the Huddersfield game with some mates the other night and non of us could understand why Houghton played a 5 man midfield with Guthrie playing off Ranger at home against a team in a lower division. Surely it would have been ideal to give Xisco a run-out. Of course the game was changed when he brought Shola on and went to a 4 4 2 so if anything we should see Xisco next cup game as Shola is crocked. If we don't then i guess they aren't playing him because it's gonna cost Ashley more money and you know how he doesn't like that!

There is absolutely no way there wouldn't be provisions made for a worst case senarios. The club will be using solicitors specially experienced in drawing up football contracts so to think that they haven't made provisions is merely heresay. They would not be doing their jobs properly and they themselves are likely to be able to be sued by the club for failing to do just that. Anyway... if I was the club I would be making statments like "the playing staff would be taking a %age pay cut with immediate effect" this week anyway and at least then anyone who tries to leave the club with the current state of the world economy would simply be deemed greedy and the last thing anyone wants in any team at the moment is someone who is a freeloading greedy motherf**ker (insert any current Newcastle player name here) in their team!

Coloccini had a decent game. lucky not to give away another penalty this season, he's just a bramble is disguise, your waiting for 1 mistake from him distin was awesome, handled everything we threw at their defence with ease, why the f*** did we not pay the wages ffs for him I've not seen any coverage of the game but in real time it looked like a penalty to me. I couldn't understand why Crouch wasn't booked though if it wasn't a pen? Blatant dive if not. Other than that I thought he was alright, particularly considering the criticism he's had lately. Watched the game on Setanta and although from the front it looked a certain pen when showed from other angles he actually pulled his legs back away from Crouch so didn't in fact touch him. He had a good game and Butt was excellent too both commentators said he put a great shift in. What was obvious is that the defence and midfield were constantly gesturing for the attack to make runs and come for the ball which simply wasn't happening. To be fair to Pompey they played really, really well and I doubt even the top teams would have scored against them last night. On a positive note we looked like a different team last night than what we usually do (loads more effort and desire). If we play the same way for the remaining games we should get something from them to keep us up.

Did anyone see the program after the match where the guy that used to do the italian football show was presenting? Basically Poll was made out to be a complete idiot by Burley, Aidey Boothroyd and some other guy. All said it was a great challenge. He even tried to defend himself by asking a room full of Man City supporters if it was a pen (most put their hand up). It was cringeworthy he even said Barton was playing!!!!
-
Poll; "Just because he got the ball doesn't mean it wasn't a penalty!" Seriously he wants to go home and get a proper job!

Something from January which adds to your statement... http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/sport/2008/01/12/the_mystery_surrounding_kemsle.html

Don't laugh but ideally I would like an up and coming British manager who plays attractive football preferably someone like... Tony Mowbray of WBA. Read up on him he has a lot of talent and I like the way WBA play.
-
You lost me right there. If the team was professional (instead of a bunch of cokney wideboys who made their riches in timeshares -wise aside) then KK would still be here. Yes they got rid of some deadwood and bought SOME good players in but not necessarialy the right ones and they did KK no favours whatsoever. There's something not right at our club.

Surely that's the Chairman's jobs isn't it, not the owner's. The owner puts someone in charge of running the football club, that person in this case is Derek Lambias. He will therefore be responsible for the hiring and firing of all other staff won't he? I'm pretty sure if Keegan wanted Wise and Jimenez sacked he would have to take it up with the Chairman of the football club not the owner. Llambias is the Managing Director (and not a Chairman) just read the news article on the official site for when he was appointed. A Chaiman is a higher position. Derek's quote in the same article also states that Kevin keegan will be <b>"fully supported"</b> by MA and the fellow directors which means MA has input in the running of the club so he will know about it.

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/1447/puppettf8.th.png ...my guess.
-
The only manager mad enough to take the job would be Ian Holoway and that just ain't funny.
-
Don't forget to add Michael Owen to that. I love NUFC but I think MA has made a masive mistake. Is Wise, Llambias and the other cronies SERIOUSLY interested in NUFC? Me thinks Ashley brought them in as it was jobs for the boys none of them really need the money and none of them have an affinity to our club. The fans have been robbed and the players will be hard to motivate after this one (and don't say they should as they are professionals). They must all feel this is a Mickey Mouse set-up. We may have bought a few good players but we were close to the drop before and sometime into Keegan's reign and I think we'll be there or there abouts this season too. No Manager in their right mind would want to come into this.
-
Absolute codswallop. Have to agree. If people think Keegan is skint after plowing 3m in to his soccer circus they're mad. After a distinguished carreer as a pro footballer he has been manager of Newcastle, Fulham, England and Man C (and then again us). I seriously doubt he doesn't have substancial savings elsewhere or he wouldn't have invested so much into the circus project in the first place.
-
This is the bunch of cronies who negotiatied the £12m fee for Milner yes? What a bunch of wasters... Yes but these wasters replaced Milner (one of our hardest-working players) with what? Our club might be 12m richer but our squad is seriously depleted. BTW I would have taken 10m for Milner IF we had a decent replacement lined up.

Cheers for posting that - which helps clear up some of the confusion on roles. If that is true, and Wise is in charge of overall recruitment at the club, then I'll say what I said in another thread - I dont see what qualifies him for such a role? Two/three managerial jobs at lower league teams, albeit done well?? Also, just to add Llambias has NO footballing background his background is in casinos so my guess is he makes sure club is ready for the customers on match days and the like. He might at the end of the day have to rubber stamp deals depending on what transfer budget the club has but these deals will be presented no doubt to him by Wise. Those who think that Wise's role of Executive Director (Football) is JUST to bringing in kids and develop the youth set-up need to think again. I think its obvious to us all that Keegan has been kept in the dark regarding transfers despite being told he would have final say etc. This is similar to the West Ham / Cubishly senario.
-
I looked into this to try and get some answers. When Mort left the nufc website had a press release stating Llambias is Managing Director supported by an Operations Director. That statement to me means llambias is in charge of running the "business" side of our club. The same article goes on to say Wise is Executive Director (Football). To me that means Wise heads up the footballing side (including recruitment). Jiminez is very good firends with both Wise and Ashley. His background is in property and he is a millionaire. He is considered a super agent type guy who has many contacts and makes things happen. He has very good spanish connections (he's VP Recruitment). Vetere (Technical Co-ordinator) is kind of a transfer consultant who works for us during the transfer windows. Looking from the outside and the job titles Wise is head guy when it comes to Recruitment so the buck stops with him.

http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10278~1329691,00.html Basically it looks like Llambias runs the "business" side of the club having no football club experience and Wise runs the "footballing" side which I would take includes player recruitment (not just youngsters). As I have commented in another thread is Keegan asks for four players and only two are delivered then Wise is the man responsible for failing to deliver what has been asked of him. Yes 12m is good business for Milner and selling Smith would be good too but the reality is we seem to have a policy of letting players go before replacing them (probably to save some £££ on wages etc) but we should really buy first then look to ship out so we don't compromise the quality of the squad.
