Big Jock, Wee Eck, Hector, Angus, Sandy, and Sidney, Lanky, Arnold, Cedric and Egbert might beg to differ. The Dandy, right? Bingo! Couldn't find any images of them though.

I have to start such threads in the face of all the knee-knocking going on. Maybe you should start a poll. Is stoic and seemingly forced enthusiasm for the manager more useful or more amusing than concerned knee knocking. Discuss.

Still haven't seen it. Do you think it was a bad miss, then? Or not as bad as many made out? It was on target, just not enough power. Dissapointing but just glad he hit the target after his recent efforts, and certainly not worthy of much (if any) sustained criticism for me. The team did not deserve a goal, and it would have made little difference in the end anyway. I disagree there. They'd battered us but had only just got the breakthrough. An instant response from us could have changed the game completely. Possibly. Couldn't see us suddenly finding the spirit so lacking in the rest of the game though to turn it around, but maybe could have grabbed a draw. If we had somehow managed to fashion the first goal of the match then things may have been different. As it was though, the result was fair.

Really? I was very impressed, saw him do very little wrong. Maybe it was just in comparison to everything else. Midfield contributed virtually nothing, leaving the defence under constant pressure. Gameplan seemed to be Rozenhal whacking it to Shola on the left wing for flickons, or for Senderos to mess up. Agree for the most part. Nothing stand out, but he did very little wrong and had a number of encouraging moments.

We were poor, very poor. Did absolutely fuck all while they danced a merry dance around us. Player ratings? Shay was ok, Taylor did pretty well, Martins made an effort, good to see Emre, though he didn't bring much to the party. Everyone else failed to do anything of note... except Shola... who was utterly shocking. Fuck knows why Martins is being hammered. Shola should be fucking put down in comparison. As our only outlet, all Martins had to work with were balls over the top. Ballooned one chance, didn't have enough power on the other, and he was far, far, far from from a player to lay much blame on. The manager/whole team deserve the criticism. Possible we might have nicked it but even then, I never had much belief that it would happen, much like the team it seemed. Another underwhelming and impotent performance. Ah well, always next year. >

Wonder if Big Sams desire to see him stay in the Prem extends to offering him his own job. Or tomorrow will he name the managers he feels should be replaced before him.

And what if we were to lose in the same manner, would people not be right in feeling aggrieved? I have to say I envy those that can take such performances on the chin so lightly.

I'm pretty positive that the Derby game gave Benitez a good laugh. He has responded to Allardyce's remarks about how lucky the former was to still have a job at Liverpool btw. "I want to say two things," he began. "Firstly, I think he should be more worried about his own business because he must have more problems than to waste time talking about other managers. "Secondly, has he forgotten Liverpool winning the Super Cup, FA Cup and Champions League as well as reaching another Champions League final, a Carling Cup final and twice finishing third in the Premier League? "Maybe he doesn't have a great memory." http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=420932

Bit random but this interview is too good not to stick up here. Wait for the adverts to finish and enjoy a head to head I just couldn't see being replicated today. http://www.itvlocal.com/yorkshire/sport/ Facinating stuff. //Could never have a more successful league campaign than me, talking about taking the shirts off and massaging their players. Gold Jerry! Make sure you watch it all.

Allardyce simply isn't brave enough and is too obsessed with his platform.
BottledDog replied to Parky's topic in Football
Well said.....especially talking on the pitch sick of every manager blaming injurys...bla bla fucking bla!We were playing fucking Derby like! Olliemort, hate pick you up on this, but not two pages ago you seemed to take another stance entirely. Or at least were riling against those who found such excuses all too familiar. We have had a very decent start but it still left a lot of questions. We had failed to create many (almost any) chances in our games so far this season, and this performance capped the lot. It is all very well giving someone time, and even the most ardent here I doubt are foolish enough to be wishing Sam the sack just yet, but can you not at least see that there is some basis to the growing concerns? -

I'm still amazed there isn't at least one thread talking about BSA's comments recently, whether they be his international excuses, or his rant at Benitez. -

Get away, Allardyce has lambasted Benitez for not understanding the Premiership and you have the gall to have a go at BSA for the same thing. The nerve of it. -
By your own arguement then, it must be a choice, as there are no gay people in Football whatsoever. I'm amazed this thread hasn't deteriorated into guessing who has the alternative lifestyle in our team. That's not an invitation to do so btw.

Just been offered a £50 bet on this from a Derby supporter, but like an idiot refused to take it. I may not have the confidence that we can beat lesser teams yet, but one thing I'm loveing at the moment is that I can't see us losing this one. blueyes.gif

Irony? No, you've lost me. A pub cannot do fundraisers for locals like the lad who ran in his toon top the length of Britain? A pub landlord canot give his opinion on how shitly staff are treated down the local bookies/pub/whatever? What the fuck are you talking about. They can say what the fuck they like. They can say whatever the fuck pisses them off, interests them, grinds their fucking gears. It's their site. they pay for it. If you find it of use that's all well and good. if not, they couldn't/or at least shouldn't give a shit. I don't frequent the site, but find it useful whether it be seeing whether my opinion coincides with their match reports or just checking up on transfers or old stats. They are not the fucking BBC, it's not like you pay taxes for their impartiality. Have you changed your mind about me "growing the fuck up" then? If you don't understand what irony is, then I'm not going to waste my time trying to explain it to you. I'll just ask you a simple question: Should the owner of a pub not have the same rights as the owner of a website to do what they want with their business? Having re-read your post it's pretty obvious that you totally misunderstood what I was saying, which was: that it's inconsistent for someone to criticise people for passing comment on what someone else has said, by saying that the original person has the right to say whatever they want and should be free to criticise the actions of a third person. Do you understand what I'm saying? I never actually gave my own opinion on the matter so the majority of your post is completely irrelevant to what I did say, but I'll give it now. I think that the pub owner has the right to run his pub as he sees fit, that .com have the right to run their website as they see fit, and we have the right to criticise them as we see fit. Is that ok with you? Sorry. Ignore me and my post pub rants. I'm a terrible drunk. :-[ No worries, mate. Gah, I'm also a bit rubbish about changing my posts after I post them. Meh, happy Saturday everybody.

Not really. I didnt mean from your perspective. And what perspective is that?

Agreed. As I said earlier. An amazing thread that tells a story, tbh.

You're ignoring the fact he says this season is a write-off already then? Wish he'd told me like, I'd have saved £250. I'd also like BD to explain how pointing out when someone is over £163m out in their estimation of what Ashley has spent and implying they hadnt even thought about what they posted makes me a 'hateful little cunt'. Thats abusive imo. Can BD also point out where i was abusive to anyone in this thread? I'm not going to stoop to his level on this. And nor should you. Thick, lacking in brains and fucking stupid cropped up in your attacks on peoples arguments. Abusive? I can't speak for those on the receiving end. Aggressively and unnecessarily over the top when there were pretty fair opinions being aired? Imho, yes. I reacted in a similar over the top way, and while I did change it almost immediately, no excuses, I have the unfortunate mouth of a sloshed navvy and apologise for that.

I guess it's the difference between hope and expectation. Every season I hope we'll win something, but I don't expect us to. Maybe if I supported Man Utd or Chelsea I'd expect it. FWIW I think we're heading in the right direction, I think SA is cannily rebuilding the squad, so I don't see this as a wasted season waiting to happen at all. Maybe after the January transfer window would be a better time to start complaining. Anyone writing off the season before it's begun should really expect to get shot at imo. I doubt the OP expects to win things, just thinks that with a little extra push we could significantly improve our chances to end the drought, which is fair enough. All the other predictions of success beyond this season seem to rely wholly on Sam lasting the distance and building year on year which at this stage it could be argued is not far removed from being just as much of a hopeful dream (with as much basis in reality or our history) as someone wishing for the club to actually push on and win something or make Europe in the coming year I would have thought. Either way, can't see the need for personal attacks on the guy. Bottoms up. G'night. :drunken_smilie:

Honestly? To a degree. But don't we all go into the season wishing to win something? Sure it's unrealistic, but there are not many years left for some of us, and while I'm willing to give them every chance, and hope they afford Sam the same patience, I can certainly understand some being a little frustrated when the promised wealth of this new regime is not as yet manifest in the area of squad building as we might have (again, maybe urealistically) been led to believe. You honestly can't see that having not spent a great deal in the greater scheme of things (new owners, new TV deals etc.) that some might have a wish to see a little more being spent in order to plug the gaps and give us some depth to have a real go at competing this year? I don't have a problem with that opinion at all, however optimistic of our chances it is. It's not like BB is in a position to sack the board or do damage to the club. /BB simply demands the best, and that's just the kind of spunky, up and at 'em young buck I want in my company. Go get 'em tiger! *cough* //... ///too much wine for a Thursday. :/

Would like you to expand on that if poss. I would have said that if anything we have smaller numbers than even last years swiss cheese squad by my reckoning, and that didn't hold up to much scrutiny once the inevitable (yes, even for the magic healing hands of Sam) injuries kick in. Maybe an increase in general quality and the ability of a few players to 'do a job' in a few positions counts for something, but the paucity of numbers should not be ignored. So far, not counting the (it seems) inevitable departure of Luque, we are 4 players down on last season available to us in terms of experienced players, and 6 if you include the likes of Gate and Shanks. That rwill emain a concern (and that is all it is) until some bright spark fromn the academy hits the first team, or the shortfalls are addressed. That, is the point I take fromm BB's post. Hardly something to get hot under the collar about, or in the case of Chez and others to become hateful little trolls about. Supporters will always want more quality/quantity or whatever. At the same time it is a bit lax not taking into consideration the advances we are clearly beginning to make and are planning to make all over the club. As I have said many times, there are a lot of positives and we all have our fingers crossed. If Sam is not sacked (and that is basically what it hinges on, otherwise we are possibly back to square one next season), and if we get through this year intact trophy or not, then we will hopefully be able to say this season is not a waste and the club is more stable and able to continue to progress under the new team. But that is not what BB focused on. His concern was simply whether this squad we currently have is good enough to get us material success this current season, not some 'maybe in a few years down the line success', and in his opinion it is not. I hope he is wrong, and more than anything hope it doesn't really matter as long as we have the right things in place to get there eventually, but I don't see the big deal in bringing those concerns to the table.
