  1. Interesting that Franck Dumas spoke highly of us. I thought he was a great player, but said he was unsettled and wanted to go back to France so he left at the start of SBR's reign. I assumed he hated the place/club/England/etc.
  2. The Wall Street Fucking Journal... now even NUFC is occupying Wall Street. Excellent.

ENough with the Beckham lovefest... he's leaving for PSG get over it. Darke is talking like he could convince Beckham to stay if he professed his love deeply enough.

I am the worst LA Galaxy "fan." I hate the stadium, I hate the players (especially Robbie Keane), I hate Carson City/Dominguez Hills, I loath the way they play and yet I attend the matches and even own an "Angel City Brigade" shirt. I am thinking they win or draw tonight.... either way they'll advance... and it's irritating for soem reason.
  6. I can see why he predicts that we will lose tbh. It´s getting more and more likely for each game that passes, and I´ve initially had us down to quite a few defeats myself this season. I also think this might end with a loss. Everton are kind of like Wigan, but with a bit more quality in each position, kind of, if you know what I mean. FYI that is called "Gambler's Fallacy."
  7. BG - Thanks for posting that. That TF article really gets to the core of what the Tories think. The right usually has an US vs THEM attitude, and in the case of the Tories they really do believe that they are different and better than the rabble that live in the North, attend football matches, protest social/economic injustice etc. They have limited compassion and understanding. In their minds those kids that smashed windows and stole in London shoudl be in prison for 20 years, but Cameron smashes windows and spits on people as part of his bullingdon dining club at Oxford... well that's just youthful indescretion. Similar to Clegg (I realise he only Tory-lite as opposed to proper Tory) and his youthful indescretion as an arsonist. That said I don't think it was a conspiracy in that much was said in hushed tones or any smoking gun like that. Thatcher and her cronies believed the football supporters that died that day were scum and that eveyone had to do their bit in protecting the police. No elaborate communication was necessary, everyone knew their roles without having to meet and discuss it.
  8. I remember something along those lines as well. Apparently during Gullit and Dalglish that was standard operating procedure. When SBR got here he noticed the payers didn't eat together and hardly even knew eachother.
  9. That is a good point. I would suppose there has been a significant shift in how players are "settled in." Souness, Allardyce and JFK - you had the sense they did not even think about how "Johnny Foreigner" would feel coming to Newcastle. On the old Communicata NUFC Forum there was a poster who claimed that he worked at a sports shop during Dalgleish's reign and when we signed Temuri Ketsbaia he went there to buy new boots, training gear, etc. because that's how it was done in Greece and Georgia (players were resopnsible for their own crap). He didn't know the town or any of the expectations they would have of him. He had a clerk explain to him that the club would probably buy him new gear, but Ketsy either didn't understand in his broken english or didn't believe him. The short of it was Ketsy was on his own from the day he gto here and had to adjust with no help from the club. He returned some time later (by himself) to return all of the gear he bought.
  10. Probably should have had Donovan in an Everton kit as well (remember that game vs ManU ).
  11. What, because John Henry falls over in his yacht and is injured? I admit I was morbidly curious to see what would happen to Liverpool if he died.
  12. That is the best "damning with faint praise" I have read in a while.

  14. Neither has he in the half dozen games he's played since.
  15. Please elaborate. I think he is easily the best we coudl do outside of Caleb Porter (Akron Zips Coach).
  16. Okay I just a look around the Primera Division de Mexico and I don't see anything about Jose Torres being injured. I do see that Pachuca have rediscovered their roots however and play in B&W again. The Mexican version of Newcastle United.
  17. Not up on the latest Holden news then I take it. No by the laughter I assume he tried to have a night in the Bigg Market again and got his legs broken this time.
  18. Mike I hate to say it but "the Gooch" had his time. Him and ESPECIALLY Bocanegra need to be dropped. Why no Torres? He had better be injured, there is no excuse for leaving him (and Holden) out, unless Jurgen dislikes players who can actually pass the ball.
  19. Lancashire. You and HO9... honestly. Despite two heavy losses, they had 9 points same as us. They'd be fourth and they weren't far off that last year (I think they were 4th IIRC).
  20. Where was Blackpool five games into last season?
  21. Shearer was carrying the team (above their potential) most of his time here and made Sutton look like a world beater at B'burn when in fact Sutton wasn't even good enough for the SPL. That is the major difference between the two.
